Three Girls and Their Buddy in Telluride

Patty Griffin

Emmylou Harris

Buddy Miller

Shawn Colvin

Three Girls and Their Buddy took the stage and took turns with the song honors. After the opening “Love Hurts” each performer had a featured song in turn, starting with Patty Griffin on the left and completing a round with Shawn Colvin on the right.

As they played, they managed to turn the majestic open air venue of Telluride into an intimate theater. A wooden roof seemed to slowly form across the mountain peaks as the audience was drawn into a relaxed and varied performance.

By the time Shawn Colvin whisperingly intoned Tom Wait’s “Hold On” they could have been playing in one of their living rooms with a few friends looking on. Their set had several of the magic moments and occasional flaws that make such performances endearing.

The spell was only broken somewhat when late in the set during the final number the roof began to rain.
