On the navigation bar to this site between Videos and Members is Photos. Outside of occasionally filling in for Kim and Kyla as an admin, and having to approve them for publication, I must admit I don't pay them much mind. There are a few people whose work I admire and gravitate to from time to time, but all in all, I take them for granted. This morning I paused for a moment on the front page, and watched the slide show. A lot of hats. And of course guitars. And I wondered just how many photos have been uploaded since the site went live...over 30,000. The first was the cover to the short-lived ND book-a-zine in late 2008 at the left here. I've always liked that shot.

Most of the pics are from bands looking for a little love, or from fans who've taken pictures at shows and festivals. Some of them are from professionals and others are ripped from other sites or publications. I imagine I could spend days going through and picking out the best of the best, but that seems like too much work. So I thought I'd just sort of stroll through the 1500 plus pages this morning, and randomly select some shots that might catch my attention. Might inspire you to take some time and wander through the galleries yourself, or add your own.

Nice Ed!  So many great photos have been posted to the site. Thanks for highlighting some of them.

This Avett Brothers stage dive posted by David Butler back in 2010 is one of my favorites.

I loved that Avetts stage dive too, and you found some great shots, Ed! It's funny - I think the cover of that bookazine was a photo that was uploaded before the site was live to the world and we were just playing around with the features, trying to figure out this newfangled Ning thing. Similarly, Jonathan Hull started the first forum - just to show us how to do it - and now that forum ("What's your favorite Wilco album?") has a ridiculous amount of responses. Cool to see things like that come back up.

I loved this shot of Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. I've seen them a few times and know the lighting-the-washboard-on-fire thing is part of the show, but it always kills.

The photography is one thing I really miss about the magazine. It doesn't stop you short on the Web quite the way it did when you were flipping through pages and happened upon a killer live shot. So, thanks for posting this and giving some props to the really great photogs who share their stuff here. It's often overlooked, unfortunately!

Excellent shots!

As a 'photographer' I love seeing my photos on the site and draw great inspiration from some of the other (better) photographers. I think this 'feature' represents ND more than the videos.
