Rob Tepper Does a Good Woody Guthrie Impression

Because Woody Guthrie never got to make his own music video of "So Long It's Been Good to Know You," singer Rob Tepper helps us imagine what one might look like. Tepper is an actor who does a one-man show portraying Woody Guthrie.  He appears in the short film Been Good To Know Yuh – a Woody Guthrie Story.  Check out his performance of Guthrie's song:

Guthrie originally called the song, "Dusty Old Dust," and it is one of Guthrie's earliest songs about a real-life event.

That's very cool, man.

First, it is not an impression. Rob is a gifted actor, who has co-written a one-man play about Woody (his next live performance  is in Birmingham, AL in April), and a short movie about Woody's last meeting with Cisco Houston, who died shortly later.

Rob has found and invaded Woody's spirit. He recently sang (as Woody) with Pete Seeger. A friend of Pete's asked him if Rob reminded him of Woody. Pete's terse response? "Rob is Woody."

This rendition of "So long, . . ." is not good. It is great.

Thanks for the information.  I've corrected links here and in the longer story about the song on Chimesfreedom to include links to information about Rob Tepper.  And by saying it was good, I only meant that I enjoyed it and it was cool to see his performance.  The reason I posted it here and in the longer post about the song is that I like the video and thought more people should see it!  Thanks for the comment and the information about the upcoming show (more information on the show is also on a When the Curfew Blows Facebook page).

And thanks to you, JeffK, for getting Rob's talent out to so many more people. That was so cool on your part. I hope you get to see his one-man show on Woody. It is fantastic.
