NOTE: This contest is now closed. Our two winners will be announced on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Stay tuned!

It's been 25 yeas since REM released their sophomore album 'Reckoning' - the groundbreaking disc which firmed the band's command of college radio. In honor of this landmark anniversary, Universal is re-issuing a deluxe version of the album and 180g vinyl next Tuesday, June 23, and we're holding a blogging contest to award a free copy (as well as their debut LP 'Murmur'), and an uncut sheet of the LP artwork signed by the band.

To enter, simply create a blog post on this site discussing how REM's first two albums impacted the early 1980s indie and roots music scene. To be considered for the contest, your blog post must be created on this site. (To create a blog post, you'll have to be logged into the site. Once you've logged in, click on the Quick Add drop down menu on the right side of the page, and choose "blog". That will take you to a page where you enter your post in the text field.) Note: this contest is not limited to entrants in the U.S. Anyone in the world can enter.

The subject line of your blog entry must include the phrase "REM contest." All entries must be posted before midnight PST on Tuesday, June 23. You're welcome to enter more than once. If you have any questions, problems, or concerns in entering this contest, please let us know by commenting on this blog post. Go forth and blog. Good luck!

I'm game. I have always and will always love 'Reckoning.' Do I want to go first? Not so much.

As much as I'd love to enter I'm not so sure I could write up something about how "R.E.M.'s first two albums impacted the early 1980s indie and roots music scene" but I could wax on how much impact they had on me and the local/regional music scene.

Their first two albums, like all their albums, help to connect people to a more constructive reality.
