Ok so as I looked down the list of folk musicians that I have on my iPod this year I notocied that there were not a lot of folk women! There were a few female blues musicians like JoAnne Shaw Taylor and Javina Magness, but not a lot of folkies. So a New Years resolution will be to listen to more female folksingers!

Now with that said here are ten of my folk singer-songwriter albums of the year! I also have a list of groups and more well-known artists, but those are for other posts.  I doubt that many are on other folk's lists, but hey, give these great musicians a try!! They are more in alphabetical order than in order of how good they are for me albums are like kids each one is different. you like them for different reasons and the level you like them varies from day-to-day!! Sometimes I may listen to an album and not be to thrilled with it, then listen to it two days later and love it! Rather than rewrite information about the album I've provided links two earlier posts! You may notice that a lot of my music listening is tied to my running so you get a little of both in my posts - such is my life!

1 Ben Bedford - What We Lost  - Into the Night – What We Lost – Ben Bedford

2 Drew Nelson - Tilt-A - Whirl -  New Folk - Drew Nelson Tilt-a-Whirl

Drew Nelson is one of my favorite new artists,” John Gorka says. “His songs sound like the rest of us feel….dazed, angry, amazed and climbing.”

3. Ed Romanoff - Ed Romanoff  Life’s Soundtrack – Another tough run, but great music from Ed Rom...

4. Grant Peeples - Prior Convictions Life’s Soundtrack – Grant Peeples – Prior Convictions

5. John Malcolm Penn - Hangtown Fry - Into the night with John Malcolm Penn – Hangtown Fry

6. John Wort Hannam - Brambles and Thorns A Musicless Run and a Morning with John Wort Hannam and Rachel Harr... - Hey there's a female more Americana than folk though!

7. Mark Lucas - Uncle Bones - Life’s Soundtrack and Into the Night with Uncle Bones from Mark Lucas!

8.Rob Baird - I Swear It's The Truth - Today’s Listen: Rob Baird – I Swear It’s The Truth

9. Patrick Brooks - Rust and Weeds : New Folk from: Ohio, Minnesota and Sweden!

So this post has two albums from other artists - yesterday I listened to several tracks from Melancholic Melodies For Broken Times from Swedish singer-songwriter Johan Örjansson and I really enjoyed hearing it again!

10. Rayland Baxter -feathers and fishhooks  New Folk: Rayland Baxter – feathers & fishhooks!

Now here's a few albums that I never got a chance to write about but I listened to during 2012! So much music so little time!

11 Old Man Luedecke -  Tender is the Night

11. Steve Spurgin - Folk Remedies

12. Steve Quelet - Dance of the Robots -

Here's "Kingdom Come" from Old Man Luedecke's Tender is the Night

Hangtown Fry.  That's funny.  I was just talking to my niece about Hangtown Fry's.  She's from Virginia, staying with me here in SF and this morning she's a bit hung over.  I tell  her she should go and get herself a hangtown fry and of course, she looks at me with a blank look.

It took some 'splaining.

Great list although I know few of these you mention.

Glad you included Old Man Luedecke.  Caught him at the NERFA conference in November and he was very entertaining...
