Wanted to call attention to the front page of the final edition of the Rocky Mountain News, which was published this morning. I thought it was a really nice touch that they mimicked the very first issue of the paper from April 1859 -- nearly 150 years ago:

More about their departure, including a nicely made 20-minute video, is here.

This is just the first of probably around a dozen major dailies that will publish their final issue this year, I expect.

My condolences and best wishes to all who worked there.

It's sad to watch so many newspapers failing.

I felt compelled to write a blog post somewhat related to the topic.

You can read it here.

Sad indeed. I spent the past decade fighting this trend working at weekly newspapers (Iowa City, Madison) while plugging away at a little music career . It seems the daily papers are next in line to fall. It's going to get harder and harder to find real journalism amid the online fluff. And why would the next generation get that Communications degree and be interested in journalism? We all gotta eat.

It's tough to see the end come for the things you're most passionate about...like that lost love that ain't coming back. And if you love music and print media, it's been a double hit to the gut. Somehow makes you feel older too.
