What is your list of songs you want played at your funeral?

Is it just me?
Have you also got a list on songs that you want to be played at the ceremony to mark your passing?
It's a good job I'm not depressed because on my way home from another vaguely disappointing night on the town my IPod threw up 2 of 'my' songs in a row.
This made me wonder if I am alone in having such a list?
Anyway, how about sharing yours?

Here are 2 of mine:

"Revelator" by Gillian Welch
&
'One' - Johnny Cash's version of course.

Obviously I want em all crying in the aisles!

Actually I think I'd also like a memorial event 6 months later where all my favourite bands can play happier stuff & do cover versions of the songs I love. But that's another blog post.

Oh ya - for me? It'll be Jules and the Polar Bear's "Convict" if only for the line "The nice thing about true hopelessness is that you don't have to try again."

"Forever Young" - Dylan

I love Gillian Welch's version of "I'll Fly Away." Not a big gospel song person, but I like that one.

Andy - I think the framed tattoo is the sort of awkward and awful thing you gift to your next of kin.

I get to pick a list every week, and enjoy listening to them myself too, that's way better <;-)>

Ide love Gypsy Dave Smith to play "may the circle be un broken" at some point, but I love that at anytime. Dave has never released an album, but is the best slide blues player Ive ever heard, and Ide hate to be at his funeral, so this way I figure I won't have to.

For my funeral music just stick on a Willard Grant Conspiracy cd (any one) and hit the random button I'll trust to providence and Robert to supply a suitably poignant interlude for all assembled, the only thing ide really insist on is a ripping band for the party after and dancing to occur, Ide hate the last chance for a right good medicine show to pass without it.

I'll set aside a bit to pay the band and get you all a drink.

Good Lord and creek willing Ive got time to save up for that.

If not sell my PA when your done with it.

Patty Loveless' "Someday I Will Lead the Parade." Listen here.

It took me a couple of spins to realize she's singing about a funeral parade.

Otis Gibbs "Bury Me On A Rainy Day," Jody Stecher & Kate Brislin "We Shall Meet Someday," Van Morrison "Into The Mystic," The Grateful Dead "Brokedown Palace," then Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys 'lining-out' on "Amazing Grace."

I always had a variation of 4 songs I would like played but mostly settled on these:
"In My Hour of Darkness" Gram/Emmylou
"My Man" The Eagles
"I Saw the Light" Hank Williams
"Spaceship Orion" Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Nobody would get it though, everyone would look around thinking "What the Hell" (I'm from a town of about a thousand people in Nebraska).

My late wife (who died nine years ago today) requested Gram Parsons's "In My Hour of Darkness." and her wishes were honored at the memorial service.
