Shelby Lynne: A True Revelation

Shelby Lynne has been making music since 1988 and she has seen the way the industry has changed, how making records has changed and how much she as a person and an artist has changed. One thing for certain is the same, her drive, honesty and voice.

“Many many things have changed, my hair for instance, you’ve seen all the facets of what I’ve done musically and otherwise. I was just telling a friend that what Taylor Swift has done, the way she’s handled herself and her…

Her Name Is Earl: Shelby Earl & the Desert Church of Doo-Wop

Shelby Earl insists she's not a country singer. Good luck with that. When you're name's Shelby Earl, you could perform nothing but Pointer Sisters covers and likely still get branded with a banjo; such a moniker earmarks you for a career spent evoking hay bales and wide-open spaces, whether you like it or not.

But, in truth, Shelby Earl is not a country artist, even if her rich, assertive voice is often--and accurately--compared to that of Neko Case. Yet Earl's…

Shelby Lynne, Allison Moorer: Side by Side on the Road, Starting at Hardly Strictly Oct 3

Each woman has had a storied career, marked by intensely emotional vocals, songs that dig deeper towards the heart of the human condition and very different career trajectories, yet at their roots Grammy-winner Shelby Lynne and Oscar-nominated Allison Moorer are sisters -- and the common blood is what binds their disparate kinds of roots music together like a mandrake root.

After years of enlisting each other's help on various projects and one-off shows, Lynne and Moorer are going… Continue

Gay Does Not Ruin a Career

So Chely Wright is gay. Hmm, that’s not the one I thought it would be, I always figured it would turn out to be Terri Clark or Wynonna Judd. In any event, who cares? Do you like her music or not? If you do, fine, buy it, if not, then don’t. I’m not a fan of her music, though I do own one of her older CD’s. But I’m thinking if I did like her music, I don’t think her being gay would stop me from buying it. I’ve bought k.d. lang music (openly gay) and I’ve bought Shelby Lynne music (rumored to be… Continue
