Wilco Versus Poco

This might make me a pariah in these parts, but I never got Wilco. (although I seriously love the Jayhawks.) Sky Blue Sky is perfectly pleasant, but to my ear, lacks substance, like a Blueshammer…Continue

http://www.stageit.com/new_american_farmers/new_american_farmers_ma... New American Farmers make their live debut at your house (or office) on your computer. If you were a Mars Arizona fan, you know that MA did their last show in October of 2010.…

I  disagree with Will; Americana is still a useful term, it's just more easily defined by what it's not, on account of being so inclusive. For instance, some Louis Armstrong is Americana; the stuff that sounds like Squirrel Nut…

I always thought of John Hiatt as one of the progenitors of what I call Americana, (along with Gram and Emmylou, Lucinda and all the Bluegrass contingent, including Alison Krause, Gillian Welch, et al) which I'd define as when you're…

If anyone has a right to bitch about the process, or a more vested interest in the integrity thereof, it is indeed the Grammy voters. I hope they use the debate to make their awards more like what we all wish they were, the way we thought of them…

I get pretty sentimental, this time of year; out comes the Tony Bennet, the Mel Torme and I've added some Harry Connick, Jr. and some Five Blind Boys to this season's mix, but my faves would have to be any of Brian Setzer's…

Been a KV fan for years, since I started to notice how many great bands on Austin City Limits featured him; I've watched him play on there with at least five different outfits. He's the reason Ernie Ball's Albert Lee signature model…

Howdy, Stranger!

It's been a while since I've posted, here, I jes' get caught up in the poetry, sometimes. The band has seen some new places and lineup changes; I was out of it for a while, but busy enough with my own stuff, thanks for askin'. It's called J. Allen Spence & The Double A Daddies. The new record is out, it's Sunday Depression, available in CD format at our shows, or you can download from iTunes or Amazon. It's easily the best record I've made so far, and I recommend a listen or two. We've…See More

I'm cool as long as they're not talking over the band. And on stage, I'm cool, so long as I'm not so blinded by camera flash that I can't see the set list.

Smells Like Homemade

Sometimes homemade music is ugly as homemade sin, but not always. Here's a homemade promo video for the Double A Daddies' new full-length release. Cooter put this together with his whittlin' knife and some duct tape. Well, maybe there was a computer involved, but it had camo on it. The tall building you see is in Nashville, where we'd just arrived; I'm buckling my pants, cuz I'd just changed 'em in the truck, inadvertently flashing some poor lady walking her dog. Good thing she didn't sic him… Continue

I’m a guitarist for the Double A Daddies, an independent producer/engineer/songwriter, or in modern parlance, a content provider. The latest Double A Daddies info can be found here: http://doubleadaddies.wordpress.com I… Continue
