Patti Smith @ Bowery Ballroom

Hey. Going to the first of three sold out shows tonight by Patti Smith at the Bowery
Ballroom on Manhattan's lower east side. I have been hoping to see her perform for
years but especially after I had seen the documentary on her life several months ago:
'Patti Smith--Dream of Life.' I believe the film captures her essence. It explores her
family, her writing, painting and politics. Very inspiring film. It is my intention to post
a review of tonight's show in the next couple of days.

Happy New Year!

Landmark Albums: Ramones

Four kids from Forest Hills, Queens who might not have set out to do anything but perhaps ditch the stigma of being from Queens ended up making musical history, pioneering the punk movement of the late ’70s.

Jeffrey HymanDouglas ColvinJohn Cummings, and Thomas Erdelyi. Sound familiar? Well, you probably know them better as Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny,…

John Leventhal Makes The List

Originally posted at GALOmagazine.com

Talking to John Leventhal is a satisfying feast. On Skype I see him relaxing in his office, or what could just as easily be his music room or den concentrating into the camera on his laptop, an entire floor to ceiling shelf unit behind him crowded with albums and books. One of his guitars is hung on the wall. At first, his flannel shirt…

Kevin Gordon interview with Tim Young

Thanks to galomagazine.com also known as GALO (Gloabal Arts Laid Out) I had the chance to spend a bit of time shooting the breeze with East Nashville's Kevin Gordon. It was a blast. I concentrated my questions on the new release,Gloryland, and I had as much fun listening as he had telling me. My opinion is the album is way worth the time you put into it.…

By the look of the Home page it appears we have been infested with
drug pushers. They need to go. This kind of crap is all over the net
so we sure don't need it here.

Not sure what steps need to be taken but to let 'em know they do
not have a place here!

Jim Keller Live @ Lakeside Lounge (NYC)

Jim Keller and Alex Call wrote the hit single "867-5309/Jenny" which climbed all the way to number 4 at Billboard in 1982.

Funny how things go around. I had no idea that someone named Jim Keller had co-wrote that huge hit from the early eighties. I found out because I have this subscription to New Yorker magazine; and I only have that because they sent me an offer in the mail that was too good to refuse. So several weeks ago, I'm paging through the magazine and I see… Continue

Hey Tim,

Thanks for your nice comment on Elizabeth Cotten. i don't remember when i first learned of her, but i am sure she has a big influence on any music i try to play and any music i love. She is sadly missed. i hope to see her in the next life. i'll be an aging hippie sitting in some corner pretending to play my old hammered dulcimer however poorly.

peace and distant frozen mountain ridges,

russ

Thank-you for accepting my friend request and for your kind comment on my song. I do enjoy living and working on music row here in Nashville. It's a fun place and the fact that people like you, from all over the world coming here is what makes it such a great place to be. I really enjoyed listening to your music Tim and wish you all the best. Looking forward to sharing here on this site. It is great and I've been a fan of No Depression magazine for a long time.
