City Dwelling Nature Seekers Channel The Band, Bring the Sax Back

Pittsburgh might be the only large city where you have to brake for wild turkeys. I once saw one at an actual crosswalk and it made my day. It's also a city full of green hillsides, acres of parks and an actual herd of deer that live in a walled cemetery in the middle of the city (for real). So it should be no surprise that a band called City Dwelling Nature Seekers hails from that gem of the Rust Belt.Pittsburgh is also home to a very fine and cruelly underrated Americana scene and CDNS comes…See More

Jackson Hole, Wyoming gives us Screen Door Porch

Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Perhaps not the first place you think of when you thinking of teeming indie scenes or even Americana music. But why not? The wide open spaces, the dramatic profile of the Grand Tetons and vast sweeps of lonely territory would seem to provide the perfect backdrop for lonesome, dramatic Americana. And if Screen Door Porch is any indication, Jackson Hole has done just that. The indie Americana outfit Screen Door Porch is based…See More

Etta Britt Steps Out of the Shadows

Etta Britt may not be a name you know, but you have certainly heard her work. She's been a staple session singer of the Nashville scene for decades and has shared a studio or a stage with everyone from Waylon Jennings to Engelbert Humperdinck. She was also part of the country act Dave & Sugar from 1979 to 1985 – they were nominated for CMA vocal…See More

Medicine Show Radio

MEDICINE in the modern sense is perceived to be a treatment for ailment, but in the ancient sense particularly in the minds of Native Americans, medicine is all that is good in nature connecting the spirit world with the physical. The Medicine of music can be a direct connection with all it is to be human and also our best prescription for the disconnecting-ailments of our modern culture"See More

One Upright Bass, A Couple of Bicycles, and A Fine New Americana Band

It's the dog days of summer and Virginia band The Steel Wheels are about to embark on an epic journey traversing 3 states.  Touring is not new to this band-- a quick perusal of their concert calendar shows that they're on the road more often than off, but this tour is a little bit different.  Instead of a van, the Steel Wheels are using their own muscle and metabolism to get from show to show. They will be completing a several hundred mile tour of the mid west completely by bicycle.  Oh, and…See More

Brother Harmonies and Fiddle Licks: New Twilite Broadcasters Album Out Today

With so many young acts pushing the boundaries of what it means to be "Americana", it's interesting to find a band that prizes remaining within its boundaries. And North Carolina duo, The Twilite Broadcasters, do just that.  Early country, a little bit of bluegrass, a touch of Old Time-- this band sticks close to the real roots of Americana. Adam Tanner and Mark Jackson are wildly accomplished musicians, deftly switching up fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and vocal leads, the two musicians give the…See More
