After a 2nd listen, I am amazed by how nice Zoe Muth and the High Rollers are.  I'm on alert to see them the next time they play live.  Thanks for this list, and for all of you who listen to new music as a result, I hope you…

This list inspired me to buy Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers today.  Nice!

I wholehearted agree with the first three from the community, as they were also my picks, and I don't consider myself mainstream.  I just liked them alot.  That's all.  Especially after sing two out of three live…

A true master.  He made some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard.

It can get alot worse than this thread:   "It’s always a strange thing to wish someone were back on drugs. Jeff Tweedy wrote two of the most critically claimed albums of the 2000s—“Yankee Hotel Foxtrot” and “A…

After that episode, I'm listening to 'Less Than You Think' on repeat.   Actually, I just put on 'Busload of Faith', just to appreciate that Lou has his very good moments.

That article was from 2004.    Frankly, it is fine with me if this new release doesn't win new fans, because I don't want to see Wilco in an arena.

@azkc -   The fact that the blog post was featured doesn't mean it represents the views of No Depression.  My 'glowing' review was featured as well.  I think the whole point was to generate discussion.  Wilco is a…

I did see Miles Davis perform with his back to the audience, but that was a very different situation than Tweedy telling people to shut up and listen at a solo acoustic show.   For the people who do like this album and Wilco, the NPR stream of…

Ambivalence is not something I associate with Wilco, as most people seem to either love them or hate them.   Just an observation, Wilco=Jeff Tweedy for many, but this album is a band album.  I've seen this now long lasting iteration…

That's like waiting for the Kinks reunion.   Anyway, expecting Tweedy to be gracious is like expecting Dylan to be.  However, I do love it when he tells people who are talking at his shows to shut the hell up.  I respect that.

Better than the original?  Not sure I'm with you on that, as a Soft Boys fan, but the fact that I even had to think about it says alot about the quality of their cover. Nice things about Jay forthcoming:  his voice is incredible.…

Underwater Moonlight is a masterpiece and one of the most underappreciated albums I can think of.

I love that version of I Wanna Destroy You - that was worth the price of the re-issue alone.    It doesn't hurt that I'm a big Robyn Hitchcock fan, either.

Wilco Gets Serious

It is one of those cherished musical events in life when you hear an album for the first time and it sounds perfect, like the album you’ve always been waiting for the artist to make, if you were able to imagine it in the first place. The last year has been kind, with the release of the Decemberists The King is Dead,  Gillian Welch’s The Harrow & The Harvest, P.J. Harvey’s Let England Shake and now the latest release from Wilco, The Whole…
