I can remember periods of my life that, when I look back, are marked by the discovery of new music.
After I lost my "dream job" in St. Louis and returned home to this small, rural town, I was disillusioned and frustrated, so I split as often as I could to go to the nearest city and spend time in music and bookstores, soaking up these "new" sounds (what was then called "alternative country"). On his website, John Carter Cash, the only child of Johnny and June Carter Cash, lists his occupation as “preserves the family legacy and is a caretaker to the heritage of his musical ancestors.”

Every time I sit down to write one of these kinds of things I worry that I sound pretentious because so many other people knew the departed so much better than me. I wasn’t close to Bob Reuter, I wasn’t an expert on his life, and this isn’t intended to be an official tribute of any kind.
