Fun list!   I would add Lori McKenna "Lorraine" to 2011, and I am really looking forward to Kathleen Edwards upcoming "Voyageur."   For other up-and-comers, I really like Amelia Curran and Jenn Grant from Canada.

Rockstar Aimz commented on Adam Sheets's blog post 'On freedom of speech, misplaced legacies and double standards'
Freedom of speech is Hank posting that statement on his own personal blog or something along those lines.  When you are on national television it's a different issue, especially when one of your employers is owned by Disney. He can't…

Great review/writing! They were in Raleigh, NC a couple weeks ago and I was in NYC so I missed their show here. The week I traveled I missed Jason and Hayes, Chris Knight and Gurf Morlix all in one week.

Concert Review: Hayes Carll with Jason Isbell and Shovels and Rope, April 23, Boston

About a minute into Hayes Carll's first song "Chances Are" a big cheer erupted from the crowd. No, the crowd wasn't cheering for the protagonist in this heartfelt ballad. They were celebrating the fact that the Boston Bruins had just beaten the Montreal Canadians in double overtime. For a second there I thought I was back in Canada, but then I remembered that the Leafs never make the playoffs. I hope the Texans on the stage weren't confused either.…See More

At least you got to see a show in Oakville Amy. Years ago while visiting TO, I had to trek to Mississauga to see Ian Hunter at a place that had all the ambiance of a bowling alley. Why couldn't he play at the El Mo.....?

Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans, Nov. 2, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts

I'm spoiled and I know it. Toronto is the New York City of Canada, and every touring band/artist comes through Toronto at least once every few years, sometimes every year (Drive-By Truckers), and sometimes several times a year (Tim Barry). Except for… Continue

Note: I wrote this review for two other blogs, and it took me forever to write so I figured I should share the love and post it here too. It's long, but I broke it into three parts on my personal blog, so click the "Day X" to read it chapter-style. There is some non-Americana/Roots music/content in this post, but think you all can handle it! Enjoy!

Concert Review: James McMurtry at Lee's Palace, Toronto

James McMurtry is surly, grumpy, and intense, which is why I love him and his music. He played to a criminally small crowd at Lee's Palace last Tuesday, July 13. When I arrived there were about 60 people in the audience, and by show time there were maybe 100 people. Not a great turnout for a place with a capacity of 500. Although there was a lot happening in Toronto that night, including an Old Crow Medicine Show gig at the Phoenix, which may have… Continue

Hi Aimz.
Nice to see on ND.
Great review.
Got around to listening to the new Stagger album last night, not bad, but thought it could benefit from a a little more twang.
Cheers,
Simon
