Try Richard Shindell's "Transit" as an example of a song that takes you on an adventure, first with NY Metro weekend "escapees" and then, a nun whose mission is to help those who can't escape. Dave Carter once opined…

Well, I have very strong opinions about the early Patty Griffin work, especially "Flaming Red". I had just moved to the country (southwest PA) after having been in the N.Y. Metro area the previous 20 years. That record featured the title…

The Jamesons, 18 strong, aged 1 to 59, were in New Orleans last Friday (5/27) to celebrate my brother P.D.'s 50th...We surprised him at Jackson Square, wearing pink punk rocker wigs (think Cindi Lauper)...had a spectacular dining experience at Muriel's, including Sazeracs to kick off the night's grog consumption...saw some fun cajun act at the Bayou, and some less memorable acts in the rock clubs on Bourbon, but some sublime jazz from a cat named Sharif at Maison, club to club, me serving as…

The song is "Me and the Eagle"

No idea which CD it's on. I try not to get into fights with people here, but the 'he doesn't know when to shut up' line got me a little hot. Damned uppity songwriters.

Pete,

Good to talk with you again. The man who built my guitar and Maggie's incredible mandolin lives here in NW Florida, but is heading home today to somewhere in PA. His name's Lou Running, and he's the most amazing luthier I've ever seen.

Funny, in your NOLA post you mentioned the Maison Dupre. Maggie and I played a wedding there the first night of Mardi Gras about 10 years ago. They put us up in the William Faulkner suite. The wedding was at least an acre of silk, and the bride had us play her favorite song as she walked down the aisle - Lyle Lovett's If I Had a Boat. What a hoot. Afterward, I tried, my one-and-only time, tequila infused rum. Next thing I knew I was walking in the city's first second-line parade, wrapped in so many beads I couldn't breathe and Maggie got me safely back to the hotel.

Ain't ND a great place to hang out?
