Never heard of these guys, but I liked this song a lot. I'll be looking for "Gone For Good" to buy. The band's name sounds like a lyric from the Johnny Cash song, A Boy Named Sue when he says that they fought in "the mud,…

July 23, 2009"MUD, BLOOD AND BEER"Posted by Hal Bogerd at July 23, 2009 9:43 PMThe self-titled debut album from "Mud, Blood & Beer" rocks as much, if not more, than it twangs. While the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, Uncle Tupelo and the Jayhawks are obvious touchstones, the Long Ryders, Guadalcanal Diary, Jason and the Scorchers as well as early REM but are perhaps closest in sound, attitude and songwriting style. Why, hello! Thanks for coming to our No Depression Member page and (hopefully) listening to our new CD - GONE FOR GOOD!

Perhaps it may be time to reintroduce ourselves - it has been a while:

Mud, Blood & Beer is a New York City-based alt-country, roots-rock, twang-core (and other hyphenated words) band that has been kicking around since early ought’ seven playing at some of the best dive bars that Gotham has to offer, including the Knitting Factory, the Lakeside Lounge, and the R-Bar. The band carries on the spirit of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo, the Jayhawks, and Jason & The Nashville Scorchers.

The name “Mud, Blood & Beer” is cribbed from a line in Johnny Cash’s classic “A Boy Named Sue”: “Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer” and is a perfectly apt description of who we are and where we derive.

Our sophomore disk builds on the promise of our well-received debut but showcases our growth.  These songs hit upon the appropriate alt-country touchstones of drinking, some more drinking, drinking and rehab, yet further expand the playing field with complexity and creativity.

Mud, Blood & Beer is made up of New York City music scene veterans Jess Hoeffner (guitar, vocals), Stephen Swalsky (bass), Jon Glover (guitar, vocals), and Stephen Sperber (drums).  They deliver the rock, the twang, the harmonies, and the songs.

Some nice things that were said about our debut disk:

“An excellent debut album.”
- No Depression (www.nodepression.com)

“Thirteen hook-filled tracks … A serious contender for debut disc of the year … Highly recommended”
- Hickory Wind (www.hickorywind.org)

“I don’t know where this band came from…I love this entire album!”
- Americana Roots (www.americanaroots.com)

Our second CD is available through our website (http://www.mudbloodbeermusic. com), CDbaby.com, iTunes, and other Internet retailers.  Please buy many copies.
