It may already be mentioned,  he was quite a visual artist. I have a book of his paintings of robust characters in music settings. Way out Willie, RIP.  What ever happened to Shuggie? Has he released anything in recent years?

I think he also played drums on Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog", as well as producing it. And have you heard his ribald stuff, recorded under the name "Snatch and the Poontangs"? Fun! I included plenty of Johnny Otis…

Johnny Otis Rolls in Peace

Johnny Otis 1921 -  2012R&B musician and bandleader Johnny Otis joined the heavenly band today after 90 years on earth.  Otis was a unique character in the history of roots music.   He was born to Greek immigrants in Vallejo, California and consciously chose to be black in a time when this was risky and dangerous.  Nevertheless, Johnny went on to immense success with a big band, a smaller review, production and songwriting credits and an absolutely dead on eye for new talent.  Etta James,…See More

Sorry to burst your bubble but Tom Jones is really hip right now.  If you'd said Engelbert Humperdink or Liberace, you'd still be safe.  But Tom Jones could sanp his fingers and Jay Z, Gaga, and Katy Perry would be right there.

New Ry Cooder disc coming plus live dates

Ry Cooder will release "Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down" on Nonesuch/Perro Verde Records on 8/30.  Ry continues to probe the difficult topics of class politics, race relations, and big business' assault on American society.  With a fine and righteous anger, Ry aims his guitar squarely at injustice, malfeasance and the kleptocracy that currently dominates our political landscape.

The lead off single "No Banker Left Behind", savagely skewers Wall St fat cats who board a luxury…
