Mike Ollier commented on Barbara Bruederlin's blog post 'why I review albums'
I started reviewing because the music I listened to was never written about in my local papers and magazines.   I too love coffee house concerts and over the years my reviewing ended up with me becoming friends with some of my favourite artists…

"A Life" is the one that Sopringsteen used to talk about befre he performed TLIYL ~ an exceptional book.

Excellent band ~ their cover of John Hartfords 'Tall Buildings' is wonderful.

Richards said there was no point re-painting the smile on the Mona Lisa ~ it's been reported for months that Jagger re-recorded or wrote new lyrics for some of the extra tracks.

Mike Ollier commented on No Depression's blog post 'Exile On Main Street vs The White Album smackdown contest'
Exile is a thrilling, wide-ranging album. The White Album has some cracking songs on it but isn't as eclectic as The Stones effort. "Revolution No9" sways it; a piece of awful, unlistenable indulgence that unbalances a fine album. The…

Mike Ollier commented on Grant Alden's blog post 'Gram Parsons in the Country Music Hall of Fame? You're kidding, right?'
"Gram Parsons would be a footnote, no better known than Peter Green." This has me puzzled... Peter Green is, IMHO, was the best white guitarist around, his output with Mac from 1966 to 1970 was exemplary ~ ask BB King. And, lets face it,…

Mike Ollier commented on Lincoln Barr's blog post 'Show Review: Chuck Prophet & the Mission Express @ the Tractor Tavern, Seattle, WA - 12/10/09'
Good review ~ we saw Chuck in Newcastle in Novemeber... awesome, as always. Why they aren't playing huge gigs is beyond me, but I hope it doesn't happen!! Seeing music this good in a small venue is what keeps me going.

Mike Ollier commented on Grant Alden's blog post 'A pity about Lucinda and the AMAs'
PS: also got to agree with what Deone says, there are some glaring absentees ~ the fact that Tandy and Mike Ferrio have been overlooked for ANYTHING for the last 15 years gives me no faith whatsoever... I don't want to be a member of a club…

Mike Ollier commented on Grant Alden's blog post 'A pity about Lucinda and the AMAs'
I remember a few years back, when I was manager of a rootsy record store here in the UK, a local act had had a successful year and was invited by Folkroots magazine (as was then) to give them their top 10 for the year. The person in question came…
