Michael Brewer replied to Bill Kuhn's discussion 'What was the weirdest show lineup you ever witnessed?'
I had tickets for The Monkees in Wichita Kansas, because I wanted to see Hendrix, but he was released from the tour in Denver following the previous show.  Heard from the promoter that the Monkees fans' moms freaked out seeing Jimi make…

Michael Brewer commented on No Depression's blog post 'Greg Brown 'Freak Flag' listening party and contest'
Greg has been strumming heartstrings in me for decades, even drawing tears at just about every live performance I have traveled many hours to witness. His recordings give comfort, support my own sentiments, and often validate my own opinions and…

I have raved about Daniel here before, as a  person and musician, but encourage all to give him a listen!

Michael Brewer replied to steviedal's discussion 'What did you buy this weekend ?'
One great, simple sample of the great talents of John Fullbright, straight from the gifted hands of the talented young songsmith himself. It was recorded live at the Blue Door, not far from his Okemah, OK roots. Just him and his Martin. Recording…

Michael Brewer replied to Matt Mesa's discussion 'What song simply brings a tear to your eye?'
You bet it is one of Daniel's best production efforts. What amazes me, is the impression and influence Dan seems to leave with so many of the folks he works with, much like T-Bone Burnett. Red Dirt Girl being proof, almost as good, but Daniel…

Michael Brewer replied to Matt Mesa's discussion 'What song simply brings a tear to your eye?'
I have seen many tunes mentioned that move me, but one that did it for me, a very rare recording of Chet Atkins, I think called "Still Can't Say Goodbye", a song about the kind of feelings every man should be able to hold onto…

Michael Brewer commented on Mando Lines's blog post 'Being Hayes Carll'
He's got a great band backing him up, including a fine singer/songwriter/'tar pickin' Travis Linville. If the chance to see Hayes or Travis comes your way, don't miss it!

Michael Brewer commented on April Fecca's blog post 'Over the Rhine: We Try to be Tender with All of Our Might'
I first encountered OtR when they opened for Adrian Belew for a tour. They were an incredible 4 piece then, with folk, jazz and rock elements then. I have not even seen every release, but have 4 or 5, and there is not one that I would hesitate to…

The Folks Festival-Great Expectations of what it will and won't be!

It is with genuine excitement that I look forward to the Folks Fest in Lyons, CO, Aug. 13-15, 2010. The wonderful festivals presented by the crew at Planet Bluegrass were some of my earliest festival experiences, pre-dating many of the mega festivals that exist now. I do not spend the summer following the festival circuit, but spend hard earned funds and vacation time from work attending several events that are held a reasonable distance from home. Some of these are held by promoters other than…See More
