"Interesting review and perspective. I think her record was one of the early highlights of 2014 and her show here in France a couple of months ago was high impact. It's good to see an artist taking some chances and being different."

St. Vincent in Concert: As Performance Artist, Annie Clark Shows Her True Colors

One of the most intriguing aspects about attending a St. Vincent concert is the anticipation. What will Annie Clark do next? That’s what one high-strung son of someone was thinking for the rest of us while pressed up against the barrier leaving just enough breathing room between entertainer and her target audience as March wound down while that inevitable day for April fools waited in the wings.A three-tiered…See More

Peek Into Lake Street Dive’s Album of Bad Self Portraits and Fall in Love With Rachael Price’s Voice

Rachael Price couldn’t spend Valentine’s Day at home in Brooklyn with her sweetheart, so she sang her heart out instead. Thus, another in a series of torrid love affairs between performer and audience was unleashed.

Yet Price’s most enduring relationship began as a childhood crush.

“I never wanted to do anything else but sing,” said Price, the breathtaking voice behind Lake Street Dive, one of the busiest, buzziest,…

After Becoming Pen Pals, Musician Mary Fahl and Author Anne Rice Form an Everlasting Bond

Hi Michael

As a featured contributor to No Depression, I’m particularly keen on getting your feedback for the following – Please forgive the intrusion if you don’t have the time or inclination to reply.

I’ve posted the following to the No Depression discussion board – you can either respond there or alternatively drop me a line at shatchsurvey1@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks very much for your time

Kind regards,

Steve

My name is Steve Hatch and I’m currently conducting research for my Master’s in Songwriting at Bath Spa University in Bath, England (though I happen to be an ex-pat Georgia boy).  I would be extremely grateful if you could find the time to listen to the track (link below) and answer the 2 accompanying questions.  The more detail, the better of course (more to say in my final analysis) – but all feedback will be useful and very much appreciated.

Sadly, as this is an academic pursuit, there is a deadline.  Please reply by May 20th if at all possible so that I can have time to chew over your response and include it in my final write-up.

            The track: http://soundcloud.com/stevehatch

1)     Which artist/band(s) would you say the track is most similar to and why?

2)     Which genre(s) would you say the track belongs to and why?

Always good to connect with like minded music lovers in Colorado Michael. If you are free on March 11th and think you might enjoy some all original, alt / outlaw style country music, the Hickman Dalton Gang ( Jim Dalton of The Railbenders and me) are playing at Road 34 Bike Shop and bar in Fort Collins. Until now we have been an acoustic duo and this will be our first show with a full band! I noticed you have also written about Carrie Rodriguez.....Jim Dalton and I opened for Carrie at The Soiled Dove Underground a while back. We are definitely moving in the same circles here! Cheers, Johnny

Hi Michael -

Thanks for getting back to me. And you actually, sort of answered one of my questions. The site is really eye-opening and seems very in-depth. I've been playing around on it for the last couple of days trying to get my bearings. Is it appropriate to ask you, or bloggers that seem to be very active, if I can send you music for a hopeful review? I've been looking at your posts/reviews and really enjoying them.

Thanks so much!
