Welcome to the No Depression website! I'm the publisher of No Depression, at least that's what my business card says. I'm not sure that term is really all that accurate in this age of new and evolving business models for journalism. I prefer to think of myself as the steward of No Depression because really it belongs to all of you who make this place a vibrant engaging source of roots music news and information.
I hope you enjoy your time here. Please tell your friends and if you have thoughts or ideas on things you'd like to see, or things you think we could be doing better please drop me a line in the comments below.

Here are links to some interviews I've done over the last couple years as No Depression has evolved from a print publication to this community website. The Well Rounded Radio podcast is a particularly good overview of my past with the magazine, some of what it took to make this website a reality and some of my thoughts on the future of print publishing and the digital space.

One of the most anticipated days of the year in my household is the announcement of the Sasquatch Lineup. It's been a family tradition to head over to the Gorge every Memorial Day Weekend for Sasquatch.
Lots to be excited about on this lineup! I'm most looking forward to Jamey Johnson, Bon Iver, Vintage…

Just saw the news that Etta James passed away today. Her great album "At Last" was a pivotal album in my music discovery. Thanks for the music Etta, may you rest in peace.
Excerpt from an article on Billboard:
James, who was 73, died on Friday (Jan. 20) in Riverside, Calif., after a long period of declining health, including kidney failure, leukemia and…

Mark Harding said… Hi Kyla
You should think of visiting our festival next year 9/13-15/2013. It started as a bluegrass festival in Cusick now it's in the Newport City Park and we are starting to bring in other Americana (acoustic + drums). we almost quadrupled (to almost 1000) this year since our Association took over. Our budget is still small so we are trying to find decent bands willing to come from as far as Seattle and Missoula. If you know of a cool band not to far away have them give us a call. We will book 15 bands for next year. Look us up at www,pvbluegrass.com.
I will also follow up on your letter and investigate your suggestions. What part of the world are you, Seattle? I'm in Kettle Falls, WA
Thanks for writing back.

Curtis Ray Barclift said… Hi Kyla,
Thank you so much for letting me know that you enjoy my comments. That puts you one up on my wife, who enjoys some of them, at best, maybe. Seriously, thank YOU for everything you do on ND. From someone who's always had a great love for music that's off the beaten track, ND is a refuge where like-minded music lovers can exchange information on music new & old, opinions and ideas. That truly means a lot to me. In the words of Nietzsche, "Without music, life would be a mistake." I'm confident that you agree. Luv ya, Curt
