Columbia, South Carolina alt-country rockers American Gun are back with a brand new album that shows off their revamped lineup and some more rock 'n' roll direction in the songwriting. Great cover, too, as you can see above..couldn't resist posting it full size, sorry.

How is it that one of the best undiscovered Americana acts hails from the Motherland instead of the upstart colonies? Out of Sheffield, England, comes Pete David & the Payroll Union with their ambitious new EP, the title of which comes from the opening track "St. Lawrence River," which tells the tale of a British soldier in the French and Indian War (what the Brits refer to as the Seven Years War). The titular reference is to the soldier's plight, which… Continue Posted on April 10, 2011 at 9:30pm
This weekend expatriate California punk forefather and current Scandinavian resident Gary Heffern ( of The Penetrators) released a video for an epic new tune from his upcoming album Gary Heffern & Beautiful People, "Hand of the Devil." It's a nine-minute masterpiece that finds Heffern confronting the age-old question of why bad stuff happens to good, innocent people, anchored by the repeated mantra/chorus, "Oh my soul, Oh my beautiful people."
"The video was shot at the…

News this week of the passing of Jack Hardy elicited many tales of how he affected lives of both listeners and of fellow performers, an inspiration to many but truly known by only a few. Hi Kevin
As a featured contributor to No Depression, I’m particularly keen on getting your feedback for the following – Please forgive the intrusion if you don’t have the time or inclination to reply.
I’ve posted the following to the No Depression discussion board – you can either respond there or alternatively drop me a line at shatchsurvey1@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks very much for your time
Kind regards,
Steve
My name is Steve Hatch and I’m currently conducting research for my Master’s in Songwriting at Bath Spa University in Bath, England (though I happen to be an ex-pat Georgia boy). I would be extremely grateful if you could find the time to listen to the track (link below) and answer the 2 accompanying questions. The more detail, the better of course (more to say in my final analysis) – but all feedback will be useful and very much appreciated.
Sadly, as this is an academic pursuit, there is a deadline. Please reply by May 20th if at all possible so that I can have time to chew over your response and include it in my final write-up.

1) Which artist/band(s) would you say the track is most similar to and why?
2) Which genre(s) would you say the track belongs to and why?
