Nick Lowe counts as Americana - he's written with Jim Lauderdale and produced one of the great Americana records of the 1970s - My Aim Is True.

One of the greatest two line couplets in music history:   'Take me down, little Susie, take me down 'Cause I know you think you're the queen of the underground".

Yeah, Trinity Sessions is an important record in the chain... but the chain goes back a lot farther. Alt Country has been happening since the 60's. The Tupelo era was maybe a "rediscovery" for some and a first discovery for others…

Cowboy Junkies... The Trinity Sessions. I know this site is named after Uncle Tupelo's album and No Depression is considered by many to mark the beginning of the Alt.Country in 1990... But I point to Cowboy Junkies debut in 1988 as the album…

Hey, John. Thanks for the quick reply. First, congratulations on the child -- and, these days. congrats are also in order for the decent day job. Glad to hear, though, that you're still making time for music. Please keep me posted on those two records. Needless to say, I'd love to get my hands on them when they're out. Maybe even talk you into a radio interview to coincide with the release: a little q&a, spin some songs. And also please let me know if you ever play out in Buffalo. I have a friend there who would love your stuff.

I'm writing a lot less. Stopped writing for the weekly arts paper because the kids (6 and 13) are busy, and the weekly stuff was interfering. Still doing a lot of listening though, keeping an ear out for things that really connect. Which leads back to being glad that you're still making music.

Take Care and Stay in Touch,

Rick

Hi, Jon. Played "Sing Rosetta" on my radio show the other night, so that inspired me to check in with you. It was a gospel episode, something I do every other month or so, and I used "Sing Rosetta" and "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us" to usher in a set of Sister Rosetta Tharpe songs. I also played a cut from the Dixie Hummingbird's Diamond Jubilation, a record that you turned me on to.

Anyway, hope you're doing well. When you have a chance, please let me know what's going on in your world music-wise.

Take Care,

Rick Cornell (Hillsborough, NC)
