I don't blame her. I don't recall people calling her a sham, per se. I could not do what she did time-wise. (I have to make money somehow.) People are amazed because she's just not THAT good. That in itself is a story. Personally, I…

Always liked them. Havent been buying their records in the past couple decades, but in the 80s... think I had all of them... my favorite real life memory of them is working in a co-op -ish gallery in little 5 points, atlanta, ga ca. 1988... bored in…

Amy Power! ...Comments on Amy Allison's Sheffield Streets. Urban Myth Recording Collective, 2009. Guest appearances by Elvis Costello, Dave Alvin and Mose Allison. Released June 23, 2009.

I can't say anything about Amy Allison without confessing that I have been a fan of hers since circa 1990 when I first heard her on WFMU's Live Music Faucet hosted by Williamsburg's man-about-town Nick Hill. What I heard from the get-go, was flat-out honest lyric poetry that had me in it's grip from second one. There has never been any suspended disbelief, any leap to reach into "Amy's world" for me. My relationship with Amy Allison, and I'm sure… Continue

Original Art Work by Ryan Adams at the Morrison Hotel Gallery -- an informal take on the exhibit

For a few weeks in September, Ryan Adams became the Morrison Hotel's first artist in Residence. He spent a couple weeks painting away, right there on the floor of the gallery. I'm not sure many people know Ryan even painted...well, perhaps the No Depression crowd... But it was pretty fun going to see this. I know Ryan from the fleamarket where I sell books, and he played on my record for a lark which I recorded on a saturday a couple blocks away from the flea. (I was thrilled Ryan would go… Continue

The Haggards w/Robbie Fulks; Mr. McGregor; The Zorn thing...

For transparency, I'd like to say that Mr. McGregor are my part time bandmates, and they are great with their country-punk ballads on being juvenile delinquents, a Jonathan Richman-esque ode to Lucifer, and loud song about sleep. The show was in this place in the hipstery area of Bushwick-Williamsburg (Brooklyn, NY) called Good-bye Blue Monday, a huge room, cacophonously decorated with flea market bric-a-brac with a fay 20 year old bartender sporting… Continue

Welcome to Buffalo Joe Maynard. Good to see you again. Hope you're still looking for the first (or second) edition Faulkners for me! Seriously, good to have you at Buffalo Heard; it's weird, only about 3 of 40 members are from Buffalo!
