Jerry Withrow replied to Derek's discussion 'End of the Year, End of the Album'
If it's been mentioned here I missed it - I hope that's what happened. But my standout final track this year - indeed my pick for song of the year - is the last cut on Note Of Hope - Rob Wasserman's   remarkable tribute  to…

Jerry Withrow commented on Charlie Bermant's blog post 'Live from Guantanamo, it's Bob and Joan'
Along with that interminable "overrated" thread, Dylan-sings-lousy-here posts (and perhaps the inevitable defensive responses  like mine) have - for me at least - become one of the most tiresome manifestations of the web. Sudden…

Jerry Withrow replied to T Hanssen's discussion 'What is your favorite album this week?'
Jackson Browne has said, . "The four-minute version came out really good but the 15-minute version is, like, impossible to cut down," says Browne. "We took out all the biographical stuff, really. They should be providing everybody…

Jerry Withrow replied to T Hanssen's discussion 'What is your favorite album this week?'
Robert Christgau steered me to the Woody Guthrie tribute album Note Of Hope - especially when he referred to  Jackson Browne's 15 minute version of You Know The Night as "magnificent".  To my surprise, after hearing it, I…

Jerry Withrow replied to Justin B.'s discussion 'Who are some mainstream country artists that make truly good music?'
I was very plesasntly surprised while listening to the recent Ashton Shepherd CD. It doesn't compromise, yet she avoids a stale, archival-leftover feel.

Jerry Withrow replied to Bill Kuhn's discussion 'What was the weirdest show lineup you ever witnessed?'
Ah, would that Bill had handled to booking for Duke University one night in the 70s.... We got Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention .... with Dr. Hook & His Medicine Show opening.  What a train wreck! The trouble…

Jerry Withrow commented on doug heselgrave's blog post 'Absolute Disaster: Robbie Robertson’s comeback disc'
I believe Doug went to some pains (unlike many subsequent comentators) to avoid the rampant negativity that plagues some of our recent threads - see "Overrated", and to address the musical shortcomings of this recording. Flamers will…

Jerry Withrow replied to Terry Foldenauer's discussion '5 Most Overrated Bands or Singers'
Thank you Tom McD and David for offering a measure of balance. "Overrated" threads pop up on every forum. It is almost guaranteed that some of your favorites are going to be slammed - fairly? unfairly? ,…

Jerry Withrow commented on Easy Ed's blog post 'Squaresville...the unanticipated essay about the grammy awards'
Thanks  Ed. What bothers me is the narrow focus of so much of the criticism I read in so many forums today - not even primarily in this one. I'd just like to see a discussion where genres don't…

Jerry Withrow commented on Easy Ed's blog post 'Squaresville...the unanticipated essay about the grammy awards'
I sincerely hope that this won't degenerate into one of those depressing yet predictable  post-Grammy article and comments slogs. It's been a tough winter , perhaps for few  moreso than  the music industry and…
