While many of Austin venues were advertising the annual Free Week in January, a number of us were willing to pay a little more than usual to see Bobby Whitlock and CoCo Carmel play at their usual spot, The Saxon Pub. Yep, South Austin remains a special place. Even Monday nights can be magical. Even if the word
“bummer” is associated with them. This past Monday night found us at one of our regular spots, “our local bar” if you will -- El Mercado on South First. It’s been our fallback spot for years. Dan King said… Hi,
I was leaving for a gig and I saw your Bobby Whitlock article. Didn't have time to read it but I knew I wanted to be friends with someone who showed an interest in him. To this day Layla is probably my favorite album of all time. The vocal work he did with Clapton on that album was awesome and I never understood why he never seemed to surface again after that. Can't wait to read your article.
Thanks for the shout and the friendship.

"If I were to trace the genealogy of the country music Outlaw, it would start with Bobby Bare, roll through Willie & Waylon and that whole gang, follow Cash through the late 90′s, and end up in the country music underground with people like Peewee Moore as possibly the perfect example of the Outlaw lineage in the present day"
