Patrick Sweany Wears the Colors Traveling the World

Born in Massillon, Ohio where every newborn boy has a football with the high school colors placed in their bassinet, Patrick Sweany was instead drawn to an electric guitar and rock and roll. He went to Kent State University and played clubs; continuing to live in the area until leaving for Nashville in 2009. Like many others, there was only so much you could do singing the Rust Belt blues around Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown.  Nashville was calling and folks like David & Jessica…See More

New Releases Pay Tribute to Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne

Rarely do I go in depth on a record release that is a reissue, live, or tribute album.  But two such albums featuring Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne are getting special treatment this week.Originally aired as a live pay-per-view event on October 16, 1992, Columbia Records threw Bob Dylan a 30th anniversary bash at Madison Square Garden with one of the most impressive lineups in the history of rock and roll.  My VHS tape has long worn out and trying to locate a copy of it on bootleg DVD was one of…See More

Danger! Danger!  The Minkin’s Music Civil Defense Network is issuing a warning about an Americana explosion.  Don’t touch that mouse … this is not a test.  No need to duck and cover down in your bomb shelter, but run like the wind down to your local record shop and pick-up the brand new release Utah from rookie sensations Jamestown Revival. From the very first strains of “Fur Coat Blues”, the duo of Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance from Magnolia, Texas will capture your heart and have you humming…See More

Lydia Loveless' Latest Record Shows Artistic Growth

I have been waiting for a record to catch my ear and make me perk up.  A new release to turn my head and say … Whoa.  So thank you Lydia Loveless for delivering the goods with a great rock and roll record titled Somewhere Else that with every play is making me fall in love with it.

The little girl who grew up surrounded by farmlands in Coshocton, Ohio before leaving for the big city of buckeye nation in Columbus at age fourteen has once again left her comfort zone for…

Transitioning from LeE HARVeY OsMOND to Blackie and the Rodeo Kings

Sometimes it takes a little extra effort to track down and purchase great music.  Thanks to the internet, local record stores are just a mouse click away for better or worse.  Record labels and artists now can ship an album to your doorstep, even if they’re located in another country or hemisphere. Listeners can also invest in their favorite songwriter’s next project via Kickstarter and PledgeMusic campaign with added perks beyond a CD, vinyl, or digital download copy of the new…

Welcome Jay Minkin to Gram Parsons InterNational (as well as my other fun group The Americana In Not Country Group). At some point I want to put together a Gram InterNational in Cleveland, possibly on my way down to Nashville. I'll need input on Gram-inspired bands, besides Brent Kirby & the New Soft Shoe of course.

Are you a musician Jay?  What kind of music do you enjoy?

Yeah, Jay, Tim Carroll writes really sharp lyrics and I really dig is ramshackle, Stonesy sound. There are some really clever songwriters around these days. Indeed, I reckon there has never been so much good music. It costs me a fortune, man! Have you heard of a bloke named Jonathon Burks? I try to turn everyone I can on to him. His album, Brown Paper Bag (all booze songs), is a cracker. A few of his albums you can download free. I exchange emails with him from time to time, he's a cool guy, too.

Yes, the Chambers' family has talent, man, including her dad and brother.
