Enjoying Americana
1 Reply

How could we not enjoy Americana? It was fun to think I was #1 for a moment or two. But when I listen to the others, I am glad to see them moving into the spotlight! JC

And I heard there wasn't any money in music anymore. All you've got to do is pay your dues and wait 18 years.

Lyrics

"More than I need"
-James C. Clemetson

Yes, I confess, it's a flaw
I'm always tempted by greed
I've got less than I want
but I've got more than I need

Chorus:
Let's not go running into the night
Let's not go stand out in the rain
It will get better when it gets light
I do believe that we will change

I'll come to rest where I fall
I'll find the words for the deeds
It's for the best after all
I've got more than I need

Chorus:

Bridge:
Let's turn the lights out
Don't think the night is like the day
I've come to like doubt
And it's all right when it's not ok

Break:

I've got more than I need
More than I need
More than I need, yea
I've got less than I want
but I've got more than I need

I've got more than I need
but I'm not giving anything away today
Oooh la la
I've got more than I need
Maybe tomorrow I'll give it away
but I'm keeping what's mine today

"Moonless night"
-James C. Clemetson

Night has fallen
silently from the sky
shadows of streetlights
play tricks with my eyes

Chorus:
Moonless night
I'm singing out of tune
but I can't wait
I can't wait for the moon

No sense calling
lunacy, please come by
damn your chocolate
flowery, diamond lies

Chorus:
Moonless night
am I too late, so soon
hey I can't wait
I can't wait for the moon

Bridge:
You might think that
I've got nothing better to do
than to stand here in the rain
waiting for you

Break:

Moonless night
I'm wrapped in your cocoon
but I can't wait
I can't wait for the moon

"Maybe Next Time"
-James C. Clemetson

I wonder what I'm doin'
how in the world did I wind up here
I find myself on the road to ruin
and my mind ain't exactly clear

Maybe next time I will do better
Maybe next time
I will follow all the rules
right down to the letter
Maybe next time

The devil's right behind me
he's wearin' my old runnin' shoes
He's tellin' me it was hard to find me
I can't believe he thinks that's news

Maybe next time I will do better
Maybe next time
I will follow all the rules
right down to the letter
Maybe next time

Give me some kind of omen
Let me see the sun from the night-time side
I'll stay away from these awful women
or at least, you can say I tried

Maybe next time I will do better
Maybe next time
I will follow all the rules
right down to the letter
Maybe next time

Maybe next time

Break:

It doesn't seem to matter
if I am awake I am counting sheep
Can't tell the former from the latter
and I can make mistakes in my sleep

Maybe next time
I will do better
I will follow all the rules
right down to the letter
Maybe next time

Maybe next time
Maybe next time
Maybe next time

Fame

In the 1980's, I remember sitting at the IHOP in Nashville when Merle Haggard happened by. He paid his bill with $100 bill. At the time, I thought he was showing off. As my own $100 bills have lost their value, I've come to realize that a $100 bill didn't mean nearly as much to Merle Haggard as it did to me.

Thanks for the response & friendship James.. I hope I did not come across as greedy.. my only opportunity to really listen to music these days is during my daily commutes in DC traffic to/from work.. would like to have that song on my mp3 player..

Ok, I think I'm starting to catch on to "nodepression.com" but I thought I already responded to Kenny.

Anyway, here's a repeat - I don't sell my music. It's too much hassle for too little return. But you can download it or listen for free. If lots of people start doing that, I'll start making you pay!

Hi James-
Grant just likes to get people riled up. He was the state debate champion in high school and he enjoys a good debate. Did you see his Cash v. Haggard and Wilco posts from a few months back. Same thing, different topic.

Personally I think it's kind of fun to watch!

I checked out the tunes on your page and they are really great! I featured one on the home page player just now. If learning about you is the best thing that comes out of his post then I'll be happy!!

James - no problem on connecting in with the Canadian group - I say if anyone wants to that's fine by me (as long as you don't spam, make fun of the Queen, our accents or heath care :) Nice to have you - keep writing.
