"Not necessarily my five favorites, but ones that had an big impact. In chronological order of purchase.
1. Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton. The second album I ever bought (Led Zeppelin IV was first), but the first new album I…"
"Yeah, but it's largely a singer/songwriter genre heavily influenced by country music, so it's not terribly surprising to me that the artists are overwhelmingly white. I know from the shows that I go to that the fan base is…"
"Let's hear it for drive-by troll comments!
I tend to agree with Derek regarding Jason Isbell. I looked to see if such a sweep ever happened before. Only Johnny Cash accomplished that in 2003.
"Agreed. That's one of my favorite songs from when I listened to top forty radio as a kid in the '70s. I'm thinking that one was around '72. King Harvestwas a one hit wonder for sure, but a great hit it was."
"Robert Cray - In My Soul (4/1)
Sturgill Simpson - Metamodern Sounds in Country Music (5/13)
Dave and Phil Alvin - Common Ground (6/3)
Kelly Willis and Bruce Robinson - Our Year (5/27)
Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires - Dereconstructed (5/27)
"The first time I heard of the band was when I read a feature on them in the Sept/Oct 2001 issue of No Depression (seems to be missing from the archive, by the way). It was around the release of the Southern Rock Opera album. Being an old…"
"Well, now that this year is 2014, I saw that John Hammond released a solo live album called Priceless a few weeks ago. I listened to the samples and it sounds like it might be a typical such show, which is to say great. He's coming…"
"Wonder if that's apples and oranges, to some extent. The lyrics in that song are so tragic. To then sell it for use in a Chrysler ad as a patriotic song might have been very damaging to Bruce in a critical point in his career. …"
"OK, I will admit one thing bothered me. Let Germany brew your beer. Now, I love German beer, but there are many very good craft beers brewed in the US. If I was a brewer of one of those beers, I might be a…"
"Saw this tweet on Facebook from Jason Isbell:
It may be Chrysler or it may be Ford, but you're gonna have to serve somebody.
A commenter stated that Bob had accepted Jesus Chrysler as his savior years ago.
Or maybe it's…"
"You know what? I thought he was pretty good. I missed last year's Super Bowl as I was traveling, but I do remember Madonna and MIA (?) the year before that. At least this performance was mostly about the music numbers. I…"
"So Ken, if Sarah Palin were ever in your area, would she say "I'm so glad to be in the REAL Connecticut?"
Just kidding. I've been in your part of CT several times (former wife had relatives in Norwich area) and you…"
Thanks very much for your recommendation of where to go in NYC. ND took down my post as I had put it in the wrong section (my fault) so it's now in the forum bit. Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep your comment so have lost the name of the place, Paddy's? If you have a minute to resend, I'd be most grateful.
Isn't it a coincidence that we've met several times when you've been over here under, I assume your English name, Richard Thompson? Your show last February in your power trio was superb and "Electric" is definitely among my top ten albums of 2013. Good to see Teddy doing so well too.
