Bio

“Raw as a shot of whisky, no ice. These songs come at you hard and don't let up. Acoustic story-telling straight from a wizened heart. They rock with nary an electric note. They burn going down and will stay with you. ” Author, Court Merrigan

After his time co-fronting the roots rock band, The Wayward Sons, gravel voiced Huke set out to create a solo album which harkens to his folksy roots and penchant for rich storytelling. Rustic Poet is a culmination of the journey of an artist with humble beginnings as a hidden poet, to a performing songwriter. European music reviewer John Gjaltema refers to Rustic Poet as being the sublime result of that decision”.

Many of the tracks are kept minimal, utilizing sparse instrumentation in favor of capturing the proper mood of the songs, relying on the multi-instrumentalist Tommy Worley and Violinist Jonathan Lin to put the garnish on the atmospheric stew. Not one content with being placed in a genre “box”, a few of the songs benefit from a full band treatment featuring fellow Wayward co-front Samuel Barker and drummer Kev Harris.

“Well aged alt-country that's carried with a voice as hard as coffin nails… These songs paint a perfect picture... a sonic landscape which must be listened to.” Gawain -  Der Bänkelsänger (The Balladeer)

"The purity of his heart and lyrics is contrasted with his coarse earth ridden vocals. Huke canand will arrest you with hard fought lyrics and delivery." - Ben Hall

I've first heard of Danny Schmidt this year. Now I have all of his albums. Deadman is cool. I had their album "In the heart of mankind" that I enjoyed... I need to pick it up again, been too long.

My Dad had 8 tracks of Waylon, Townes, Guy Clark, Cash etc... In his truck. In the Early 90's I was a fan of grunge, which is folky if you break it down, and when the nu metal stuff hit I just stuck to Americana.
