The Bell
I hang by a thread
Wonderin' if you're dead
For I've heard the bell of the mine
Frozen inside
A motionless tide
I wait, I watch for the sign
Deep within
Earth's crooked skin
Fear springs as a vine
Tendrils of smoke
Dread thoughts evoke
And rise round my heart to entwine
Hey now little bird
Tell me what you've heard
Fly o'er the holler and the hill
Bring me the word
What has occurred
Where then and how fares my Bill?
Down in my soul
Black as the coal
Perilous toils reveal
Trembles a thought
Satan has wrought
With prayer I seek now to heal
I hang by a thread
Wonderin' if you're dead
For I've heard the bell of the mine

Deep
Deep in the night when I dream
You cast a spell over me
With a wave of your hand, I'm in a land
Enchanted by Love's melody
Deep in your eyes I found Love
The kind that dreams are made of
Bewitched by your charms, I fall in your arms
But I'll only stay 'til called by the dove
Now dawn has come, my dream's disappeared
But in my heart I know you wait beneath the stars my dear
Now as the evening draws near
Night's velvet mantle appears
I close my eyes as stars fill the skies
The music your magical spell makes I hear
Deep in the well of my soul
Your name is written in gold
There no one will find my secret design
And the moon winks to say "I'll never tell"
Now you are near, I feel you here
Where our love wakes in the Deep.

Bluebird
There's a bluebird in my heart
She's been with me quite a spell
Ever since the day you said goodbye
To the beating of her wings
My heart measures time
And only when she sings
Do I find a smile
When she flies
My heart takes wing
When she cries
A tear to me she brings
To those ties
I've learned to cling
I just can't let her fly away from me
On the days I'm sad and blue
I find comfort in her tune
Though my bluebird only sings of love gone by
Like a sunbeam in a cell
Of her song just one can tell
Rings clear as a bell in a bluebird sky
When she flies
My heart takes wing
When she cries
A tear to me she brings
To those ties
I've learned to cling
I just can't let her fly away from me
I don't want to let her go
She's the only one I know
Who sees beyond what I let show
And truly knows me
I wonder when these days are gone
And I'm flying out there on my own
Can I catch the wind and carry on
For those behind me
My bluebird only sings
The song inside my heart
We're the only ones that know the tune
When she wants to be free
Will I find within me
That I can turn the key that we may part
When she flies
My heart takes wing
When she cries
A tear to me she brings
To those ties
I've learned to cling
Sky-colored wings teach me to fly
Free in the blue by and by.....

Alone
Alone with you
That's where I long to be
I'm on my own
But for your memory
It's been too long
Since you were by my side
Our rambling days
Where my love hides
We'd ride the rails
From sea to sea
While young and wild
But we were free
Alone with you
Those days were my best
My lonely heart can find no rest
We'd ride the rails
From sea to sea
While young and wild
But we were free
When I return
To places that we loved
I hope to find
You waiting hand in glove
I'll never change
And like that rolling stone
I'll ramble on
Alone, I'll ramble on..... alone

We're off and runnin' again this weekend. Down to Winter Garden last night to play with Jason Thomas, our extremely talented pal and bandmate as his schedule allows. He tours the world with The Claire Lynch Band as fiddler and mandolinist extraordinaire. Winter Garden is a delightful place! Every Friday night they have a concert in their downtown gazebo in the heart of their charming and beautiful town. It's hoppin' down there.
Tonight... The Mockingbird Cafe in downtown Tallahassee…

Then there was this night... Saturday. A truly magical evening. A rare performance by The Gatorbone Band... Gabriel Valla, Jason Thomas (of The Claire Lynch Band) , my husband, Lon and myself. It was the first in a concert series being presented by The Shake Rag Art and Culture Center in beautiful downtown Melrose, Fla.
The show was very well attended and it could be one of the best nights that band's ever had. We really appreciated…

Lon and I recently returned from the Southeastern Regional Folk Alliance Conference in beautiful Mountain View, Arkansas. The conference was thoughtfully coordinated and presented by its president, Kari Estrin of Nashville along with her production team. We met so many interested and talented people as well as some delightful radio personalities and venue hosts. A great opportunity to connect with like-minded folks. Thank you Jack Williams for inviting us to participate!
Next spring…
