I don't see a lot of mentions for Kicking Television. As far as I'm concerned it's the best live album going around by the best live band going around.   As for the rest they all kick ass.

Best side project bands

Not sure if this topic has ever been raised before but arising from some of the other discussions I am curious as to which side project bands equal or exceed the quality of the original outfits. The one that comes readily to mind to me is Golden Smog. While I'm not claiming that the output of this outfit exceeded that of the Jayhawks or Wilco they have put out quality material in their own right.Any comments gratefully accepted.

Dude replied to Kyla Fairchild's discussion 'Stream the new Wilco album "The Whole Love" and let us know what you think'
Thanks Kyla   I always thought Wilco could do no wrong and after listening to the stream I now know this to be absolute. The only regret I have is that they haven't deemed it necessary to tour down under to support the release as they did…

Brokedown In Bakersfield is a side band of ALO and Tim Bluhm from the Mother Hips and Nicki Bluhm of the Gramblers.  They are basically recreating classic California honky tonk country and country rock from the…

I am listening to this right now on your recommendation and am relly digging it.  Thanks for the heads up, I'm pretty sure I would never have heard of  Mountain Jack otherwise.

Mountain Jack with Brad Jones (Josh Rouse, David Mead) & Hans Rotenberry (Shazam).   Pop collides with country to great effect - must buy record of 2011.

I really enjoyed ,Golden Smog, and Strength In Numbers(first CD I ever bought). I would put the Garcia / Grisman collaborations on the list as well. The Murder City Devils are also one that comes to mind as well. The Latin Playboys are…

As you say above for Golden Smog, I wouldn't use "exceed" here, but I have always liked the Gutterball records a lot. Gutterball consisted of Steve Wynn, the late Bryan Harvey and Johnny Hott (aka House of Freaks), the Long…

Govt Mule started as a side project for Warren Haynes and Allen Woody and quickly grew into more then that.  I also would add Old & In The Way one album released in 1975 still popular today.
