"We Three Kings" by the Roches - sadly out of print but available on MP3 from your online vendor of choice. Sufjan's more recent "Songs for Christmas" is also excellent.

Any number of the Springsteen boots from the '78 tour - Cleveland, Winterland, Roxy. Cleveland is my favorite because of the definitive version of "Growin' Up".

Bonnaroo Brain Dump

We’re back and after five and a half hours of sleep (probably double what I got any night on the trip) I’m marginally cogent. Showered, shaved, unpacked and incredibly nasty clothes in the washer before anyone gets a whiff of them...OK, to get it out of the way first - I survived four nights of camping. I took the much-ridiculed “trough baths” (a poor surrogate for lack of a shower or tub). I used porta johns for four straight days. I drank sulphur water - well, mostly with a beer chaser. Even…See More

Doug Sawyer commented on Linda Ray's blog post 'Wilco June 18, and maybe in your town.'
I saw them at Jazzfest and then again at Bonnaroo last weekend. The thing that struck me both times was the apparent effortlessness of it all. The band has gelled to a point where they don't appear to be even breaking a sweat - but trust me,…

Doug Sawyer commented on PB's blog post 'That old Lucinda Williams album....'
I recently bought a DVD copy of Lu doing most of the album on her first appearance on Austin City Limits. For anyone who loves this album, it's essential. It's amazing that such mature music could come from someone who at that point was a…

Doug Sawyer replied to Music Fan's discussion 'Funniest Live Moments'
Some great putdowns I've seen here in Atlanta: Saw Jenny Lewis once take a cell phone from a girl at the lip of the stage, ask the person on the other end of the line their name and said "Hi, this is Jenny. Your friend is really fucking…

Doug Sawyer commented on Paul Cantin's blog post 'Neko and bottling lightning'
I saw Neko a few weeks ago at the beginning of the tour and, despite having loved her music and performances before, I have to say she's taken it to a completely new level with this one. For those who might be on the fence, get out there and…

Doug Sawyer commented on Grant Alden's blog post 'A heretic's Sunday confessions'
Great challenge and thread. The thing I love about options and the many ways we have to hear music today is that there's so much of it out there and we don't have to like it all because all we're going to hear at a given time is a…

Doug Sawyer replied to DEADDRUNKANDNAKED's discussion 'Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit- Opinions?'
Was really disappointed on on first listen - none of the songs seemed to have the "wow" factor that Jason's best work does. It's grown on me quite a bit, though I still don't think it's as good as Sirens. I keep coming…

Doug Sawyer commented on Elvis Fontenot's video
Thanks for sharing. Carrie is an amazing talent - although I do wish she'd play a bit more fiddle in her live act!
