slippry nipple is probably right, but I don't care, I really liked this movie. It is a Hollywood movie, with the inevitable Hollywood hokum, but I thought the country rock sounded pretty good, and I was pleasantly surprised by Jeff Bridges' songs. T…

Peter Rowan made me love singing. He's got the ghost of Monroe in his voice. Watch him in a small club on a good night, and you'll never forget it. Speaking of which, for those of you who live in the SF Bay Area, he's playing Slim's Saturday night,…

No doubt you're right, Marc, but I am still happy this review was published here. I suppose you can always suggest editing changes to the author if you see fit. And I too wish No Depression was still in its "print days"! But I want to plug this re-…

Hank III doing Johnny Paycheck's "I'm the Only Hell My Momma Ever Raised" Gillian Welch's "Daniel Had the Keys to the Kingdom" (don't know if that's the O-fficial title--she plays it live) Michelle Shocked: "Soldier's Joy" and "Weaving Way" Waylo…

This is a great interview, particularly T-Bone's recollections of his speculations before the O Brother soundtrack was released. And the only tours he did were Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue, Elvis in his King of America period, and the amazing Plant…

Anyone see Rawlings and company last night at the Fillmore? How was it? I saw the Mystic show Monday night, and it was rockin' and lively in the house with the Old Crow boys in there. Peter Rowan also came up for a few songs, including his Ruby Ridg…

Thanks so much for writing about one of my favorite singers of all time! Back in '76, I caught Laura's gig with this band at the Santa Monica Civic and then 2 days later at Berkeley Community Theatre. This album still sounds good, one of the most su…

Thanks for the thougtful review of this movie that I'm very excited to see--after all, how can you go wrong with the Dude as an aging country singer? Here's a link to a blog that appeared a few days ago on the original inspiration for the 1987 novel…

I have to echo the prevailing sentiment here--great review of a show by a great musician who I've only recently come to appreciate (I saw 2 great performances in small clubs over the last year or so, and now I'm hooked!). Furthermore, I've seen the…

Thanks for mentioning this album--I'm going to check out a few of the youtube clips to get a feel for the record. And while were at it, Son Volt deserves a special plug after their latest round of shows and the new album. If you happen to be a longt…

Thanks for reviewing this show--I missed it because I was across the bay out in West Marin at Rancho Nicasio listening and dancing to the twangy, honky-tonkin' tunes of Jim Lauderdale backed up by the stellar California country-rockers Rancho Deluxe…

Thanks for the great review--nice to be able to find a blog less than 6 hours after getting home from the show! My wife and I jetted straight from Hardly Strictly to the Mystic, or should I say, into the Mystic. And, just as any Dave Alvin fan might…
