I tried to keep my list to the last 15 years too.  My original thought was to limit it to this millenium, but had to include some Whiskeytown.   Lot of good new music out there.

One of my favorite REK songs.  The last verse kills me though.  Wild brother stops drinking.  Kind of a drag, but the right choice.

I like the playlist.  Great name for the show too.

@Hal, more like Martin Grammatica.  Scott Norwood's kick was very difficult, I think over 45 yards and to win the Superbowl.  Cundiff's kick was easy in comparison.  Although, I think Baltimore should have called a time…

Derek commented on Gillian Turnbull's blog post 'Sometimes I Just Don’t Feel Like Listening to Music'
I'm in no way a professional musician, but I set sometimes I won't touch my instruments for days or even weeks.  I need that break from playing music.  It comes in cycles.   I also have cycles in my music listening habits.…

@Kim, not to be a dick, but isn't it a bit presumptuous to label those using this site the "Americana" community.  To illustrate, I was playing Americana type music before I even new this site, or the magazine, existed.…

Bobby spoke the TRUTH!   Today, I received my IQ test results; and, apparently, I am a moron.

Oh my goodness, I think Autopsy IV's link above shows even more blatant stealing.  How common is this practice in Nashville?  Give the original artist some credit and spread the wealth boys.

He forgot to add that while sitting around that grand piano, they were listening to Jason Isbel and wondering how he could write such good songs.

The choruses are exactly the same except that Dierks plays it twice.  I think the verses are similar, but slightly different.  I'd like to hear Dierks response.  He's under  a lot of pressure to have #1 hits and may…

Jayson Kaplan replied to Derek's discussion 'Great Musician, Terrible Person'
There are a few scenes in one of the Ramones' documentaries where Johnny and Dee Dee talk about that experience. They were terrified of the guy, and rightfully so. Spector was an innovator in the studio, but a certifiable lunatic.

Crossroads: An Appreciation

Living in a sleepy Southern Eastern Colorado town, my entertainment choices were limited.  We had one theater that played the same movie for what felt like months.   My group of friends waited breathlessly for MTV to finally come to town (it eventually arrived in 1987; hello Headbangers Ball!).  But we had VHS.

One tape we wore out was Crossroads starring Ralph Macchio and Joe Seneca (Ry Cooder and Arlen Roth supplied the memorable soundtrack).  It…

Mike Cooley & Country

Recently, this community has had a debate about the best country singer.  DBT fancies themselves as a rock-n-roll outfit, but I submit that Mike Cooley's contributions are pure country.  As of today, Mike Cooley has to be one of the top five contemporary country singers.

His singing on "The Weakest Man" is much better than country stars today and rivals any of the country greats.

The songwriting on "Pulaski" is top notch. …
