I just wanted you to know that Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis will be performing at the Central Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 15, in DeWitt, IA.  Tickets are available at www.midwestix.com.  This a brand new venue in…

No matter how much we all love the Earles (both Justin Townes and Steve variety) there's a ton of great acts out there that deserve some media exposure as well. Off to buy Parr's album, great stuff, thanks for sharing.

I really appreciate the heads-up about the new album AND the reissued album. Both of them escaped my attention, and they're both very good indeed.

Thanks David. I don't want it to seem like I'm promoting the site on No Depression but I also don't want the music to go unnoticed. I don't have any ads on my sites so it's all an altruistic/egotistic campaign on my end.

Charlie Parr - "Roustabout" and a rant

I went on a little rant over at Songs:Illinois about how great the new Charlie Parr record is and how under reported it's arrival was by mp3 bloggers. In fact I called `em all a bunch of little bitches. I know, too much conservative talk radio influencing me, but you gots to be aware of where and when the tea parties are just for your own safety.…See More

Honky-Tonk Heaven

The stars have somehow aligned and conspired to bring us new honky-tonk records from both Dale Watson and Wayne "The Train" Hancock. I've compared and contrasted the two a bit and linked to three new songs over at Songs:Illinois. I think I'm liking the more organic sound of Hancock over the hard-edged twang of Watson. But it's a tossup. I particularly like that…See More

Thanks for posting this, Craig. I'm always interested in what Dave's up to. Holy crap! Did you see the personnel for the Guilty Women? Guilty or not, this is an all-star band. Cindy Cashdollar is one of the best dobro players anywhere,…

New song from Dave Alvin and the Guilty (Wo)men

May 21 is the release date for the new record from Dave Alvin. Because of Chris Gaffney's passing Dave Alvin's put together a group of Guilty Women to replace his Guilty Men band. I think all that estrogen has an effect on the sound as well - don't expect as many rockers as you would have got with the Guilty Men. I would link to a song from the new record here but I'm guessing the folks at No Depression would rather not deal with the legalities of a potentially unwelcome early leak of the song…See More

{MP3} New Music from Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass Kickin Team

The answer to the question: is anyone making really good rock n roll anymore can be found in the music of Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass Kickin Team. The answer is a resounding yes! The band's upcoming record is out soon on Doublenaught Records (also home to the equally old school rock band The Cartridge Family). Here's an abridged version of my post to Songs:Illinois about the band. {MP3} New record from Tim Easton (New West Records, April 28)

One of the cool things I stumbled upon heading into and out of the Yard Dog during the Bloodshot party at SXSW was a hand painted lp cover of the new record by Tim Easton. Tim had done the artwork for Porcupine and it was a limited edition vinyl release. The cost was $80 which seemed high but really wasn't considering you got an original piece of art and an lp."Burgundy Red" (mp3 below) is a prickly rock `n' roll song off Porcupine that may give a clue to…See More

Thanks for hooking up to the Medicine Show, I'll be featuring The Po'Girl album on the Medicine Show this week isn't it great , nice to find your blog? Its a Higgs boson of an album more fusion than the Large Hadron Collider could generate. The atoms must have been moving in the studio when they produced this one.
