"I remember my Gibson from childhood, when it used to live in a cheap cardboard case with a peace sign scratched in it," recounts Christy. Christy's interest in the guitar came naturally, as she grew up in a house full of them in her central Illinois home. Her brother played and her father collected. Most nights, when her father wasn't in his workshop building or repairing vintage guitars, he sat with a Telecaster on his lap, pickin' half-reclined in front of the TV. Christy took that old Gibson and it's flimsy case up to her room where she practiced the major chords that her father charted out for her and around age 14, she began writing songs.
After leaving Illinois in 2003, Christy traveled America and spent several years as a river guide in Haines, Alaska. Those experiences left an indelible impression on Christy and her songwriting, inspiring her in 2007 to relocate to the country music capitol of Nashville, Tennessee.
Christy spent a year and a half in Music City, she played a little with a band and recorded a 3 song demo with Bruce Cannole and the renown Brad Buxer, Michael Jacksons keyboard player and music director of 15 years. In spite of the disconnect she felt, it was in Nashville where Christy's authentic county sound began to develop. She recorded a self-titled acoustic CD there which includes a jazz and bluegrass influence from bassist Dominic Fisher. There is a classic element to Christy's songs, which draws from the influences of great singer songwriters like Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. Christy's voice is plaintive and resonating. Her songs are not the usual stock of love songs and songs about heartache. They are true American stories from an artist with a watchful eye and a curiosity about human nature and life experiences. There is nothing contrived about Christy's sound, it is unique and real as it gets.
Christy and her bass player Dominic Fisher relocated to Austin, TX in December 2009 and immediately formed a band, "Her Sunday Best." Christy and Her Sunday Best's first gig was for a well-attended unofficial showcase during SXSW 2010. The band quickly began playing Austin venues that include Momo's Club, Mohawk, Scoot Inn, Uncle Billy's BBQ and several others. Currently the band plays a weekly residency at the legendary Hole in the Wall. In the fall of 2010, the band hit the road for a short tour through Oklahoma and New Mexico, culminating with a performance at the New Mexico Brew Festival and Music Showcase with Mark Stuart and The Bastard Sons. Upcoming gigs include an opening slot for Shiner Records recording artists, Somebody's Darling at The Ghost Room, which won Best New Venue at the 2010 Austin Music Awards. The band has begun preproduction for a follow-up to Christy's debut and has tentative plans to begin recording in the Winter of 2010 in Brad Buxer's studio. "I want this coming record to shine! I feel like I finally have the tools to make something great and tell a story people want to hear."
