Still reeling from that wife of mine having stumbled across this book at the library first and beating me to it. She hinted at Indianapolis' Indiana Street and that vibrant, now legendary music scene being mentioned. Hope she wasn't…

Looking forward to reading that Zilphia bio when it's done, yes indeed.  Enjoyed this article a ton, will share the link with some other folks I know will too.  Coincidentally, we have a "Sing! Uprising" (resemblance to…

Thanks Craig, fine way to start the day! Enjoyed RT's financial sector observations and gratitude expressed to record buyers bit at the end there a whole bunch, too. Is it just me or are the folks in Glasgow REALLY well-behaved? Love me a…

Cary Allen Fields commented on big boy's blog post 'JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound'
Yup, wouldn't want to imagine a world without Bloodshot Records, and JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound were one of the pleasant surprises of 2011 around here. Hearing artists like them and The Alabama Shakes producing real live…

Cary Allen Fields commented on Kyla Fairchild's blog post 'RIP Warren Hellman'
You'd about have to have attended Hardly Strictly to imagine the scope of the thing, a singular event for those of us that love roots music to say the least. And to have cared enough to work to realize such a wonderful vision, and then make it…

Cary Allen Fields commented on Kim Ruehl's blog post 'Interview with Ani DiFranco about her upcoming release - 'Which Side Are You On?''
Fantastic interview Kim, great thing to wake up to this morning.  Appreciate you prefacing things with the Florence Reese story and some background. Important history, and Ani's thoughts on the song origin and it being a call to action set…

Cary Allen Fields commented on Jonathan Sanders's blog post 'Album Review: Brown Bird - "Salt For Salt"'
Brown Bird opened for Devil Makes 3 here in Indy recently and watching those two whip the crowd into a frenzy was the highlight of the evening, they really killed it.  "Salt For Salt" is indeed exceptional, glad we procured our copy…

Cary Allen Fields commented on Skot Nelson's blog post 'Review: Deep Dark Woods live at Vancouver's Biltmore Cabaret'
Was just watching the video for "Hang Me, Oh Hang Me" with the kiddos and we all found it to be high comedy indeed. The long underwear had just been hauled out in preparation for the months ahead around here, so it was sure enough timely.…

Cary Allen Fields commented on Adam Sheets's blog post 'RIP Marshall Grant'
Thanks Adam, I'll share the link with a whole bunch of people I know that may not have heard. Marshall's bass playing was an essential ingredient in that stripped-down and immediately recognizable sound on so many of our favorite…

Listened to Caleb Klauder's "Western Country," the new Foghorn Trio album, and "The Right Combination" back to back today. Regardless of the similarities these projects share, I was still left marveling that Mr. Klauder is…

Oddly enough, he only asked me two questions.

1. Do you feel comfortable in a turtleneck?

and

2. Can you grow a goatee?

He didn't care if I could play an instrument or not.  Maybe that's how we should pick our bandmates too.

Man, I had forgot all about Nico! I guess she's hanging with Mitch now. Because of her I wore a LOT of turtlenecks back then. Come to think of it, when I saw you at Monterey, you were wearing a turtleneck too. Hmmmmm...

Thanks for the friend accept. Thanks for the info on Centro-Matic, too. A little band in Denton called The Baptist Generals are also good here, along with Slobberbone. Also, my late granddad played guitar for the Jimmie Davis band, as in the singing governor of Louisiana who wrote "You Are My Sunshine." I'll have to dig up some picks of him playing.
