Cary Allen Fields replied to Joshua Sanders's discussion 'OK...so what does everyone have to say about Bob Dylan doing a car commercial for the Super Bowl?'
"Aw, thanks buddy. Sure appreciate that. And just so you know, we played bluegrass (straight-up, no chaser) on "Fields of Bluegrass." Here in the Land of Bean Blossom they'd run you out of town on a rail if your bluegrass don't…"

Cary Allen Fields replied to Joshua Sanders's discussion 'OK...so what does everyone have to say about Bob Dylan doing a car commercial for the Super Bowl?'
"Coming to the conversation late here, some interesting points made. Perhaps Dylan's objective was to get Chrysler to go electric. We can only hope. The commercial itself struck me as pandering. Maudlin, even. You should be proud to be…"

Cary Allen Fields commented on Gillian Turnbull's blog post 'Drinking: The Backbone of Country'
"Oh, we all know when you were funnin'! And just a 'heads up,' the new Dale Watson album has several of the best straight-up (no chaser) drinking numbers I've ever heard. It's called "El Rancho Azul" and was just…"

Cary Allen Fields commented on Joe Lepper's blog post 'Top Ten Albums From The Golden Age of UK Psychedelia'
"Tickled to see that Small Faces, Soft Machine, and Incredible String Band made the cut. We'll have some fun today around here coming up with eleven through twenty. Arthur Brown, Traffic, and The Animals will be in there, I suspect. "

Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson - "Adam and Eve"

"Very different take than the studio track with the drop-thumb banjo and all. Sure do like the audio on this. Sounds pristine. Fine setting, too. Someone has got them a vision, buddy. Hope to see more of this kind of deal in future. "

Cary Allen Fields commented on Popa Tunes's blog post 'Annie Lou - Grandma's Rules For Drinkin''
"There certainly is some nice mandolin playing throughout the album, you said it. Have been fortunate enough to see Collins and Showman perform with both Foggy Hogtown and Creaking Tree a time or two. Annie's songwriting is downright fun and…"

Cary Allen Fields replied to Joanne Hurley's discussion 'Musical Influences and the Journey to Discovery'
"Our Eastern Kentucky born and raised mom, a HUGE Louvin Brothers fan, actually sang us to sleep with tunes like "Knoxville Girl," the grizzliest of murder ballads imaginable. Consequently, I scoff at those that suggest the original tales…"

Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen ~ "The Letter"

"Frank and them just sound better every time I hear them, man alive. Mike Mumford's back-up banjo sure is a thing of beauty. Thanks for posting, I'd heard about them guesting on Music City Roots and hadn't heard any of their…"

Genius of the Lamp

Yeah, I watched a lot of Bugs Bunny cartoons when I was a kid.

I’ll tell you though, I’ve been walking around calling Ray Charles “The Genius” for so long that we were always just content to call Chris Thile, well…Chris Thile.

That may need to be changing now that the man has one of them MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship deals. First time we saw him perform was at The Del Mar Fair just north of San Diego. And I’ll…

Oddly enough, he only asked me two questions.

1. Do you feel comfortable in a turtleneck?

and

2. Can you grow a goatee?

He didn't care if I could play an instrument or not.  Maybe that's how we should pick our bandmates too.

Man, I had forgot all about Nico! I guess she's hanging with Mitch now. Because of her I wore a LOT of turtlenecks back then. Come to think of it, when I saw you at Monterey, you were wearing a turtleneck too. Hmmmmm...

Thanks for the friend accept. Thanks for the info on Centro-Matic, too. A little band in Denton called The Baptist Generals are also good here, along with Slobberbone. Also, my late granddad played guitar for the Jimmie Davis band, as in the singing governor of Louisiana who wrote "You Are My Sunshine." I'll have to dig up some picks of him playing.
