Carol C commented on Alan Harrison's blog post 'Bonnie Whitmore - There I Go Again'
"Well said, Alan. I heard tones of the Dixie Chicks and Lucinda Williams in there too (all in a good way!). Bonnie deserves a much higher profile."

MEDICINE in the modern sense is perceived to be a treatment for ailment, but in the ancient sense particularly in the minds of Native Americans, medicine is all that is good in nature connecting the spirit world with the physical. The Medicine of music can be a direct connection with all it is to be human and also our best prescription for the disconnecting-ailments of our modern culture"See More

Ryan Bingham at Oran Mor, Glasgow

11th November 2012

Ryan Bingham's first gig in Glasgow, Scotland, in early 2008, was to a small audience in an intimate venue to promote his debut CD 'Mescalito'.

His recent visit to promote 'Tomorrowland' was in complete contrast to that. Three CDs and a host of awards since 'Mescalito' (including a Grammy and an Oscar for 'The Weary Kind'), Bingham is now able to fill a much larger venue to capacity, and he certainly deserves that.

The stage set now looks…

CD Review - Dean Owens ''Cashback - Songs I Learned from Johnny''

What do you get when you cross Nashville, TN with Glasgow, Scotland? Although this sounds like the start of a joke with a punchline that would almost certainly involve rain, the answer is actually some excellent Johnny Cash covers in the form of 'Cashback - Songs I Learned from Johnny'.

The Scottish musician Dean Owens has collaborated with award-winning Nashville songwriter and instrumentalist Will Kimbrough to produce the CD, which includes 13 tracks of  Dean's favourite…

The Best Intimate Americana Festival? Glasgow Americana!

So AMA's Americanafest was spectacular (again!) this year, and we were also spoiled at the other huge Americana festivals - SXSW and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. But as the fall season takes hold and the nights get darker, even the hardiest Americana die-hard longs for something less exhausting and a little more intimate!

And that's where Scotland comes into its own with Glasgow Americana. Thanks to a…

Ecstatic! - A first-timer's perspective on the Americana Music Association conference 2012

I'd been dreaming about my pilgrimage from Scotland to Nashville for the AMA conference for many years, but this year it finally happened. AMA tickets purchased in January followed by an endless wait until September.....lots of anticipation, but also slightly scared that my expectations were too high! Could the Americanafest really deliver? Well, I've been back home for a week now and I'm still on top of the clouds! Thank goodness I have my photographs to prove that it really did…
