A couple of weeks ago, Marty Stuart released Nashville, Vol 1: Tear the Woodpile Down - a ten-song collection celebrating his career and his favorite music. We shared a free stream of the album with you and asked for you to submit questions you'd like to ask Marty if you had the chance.
Now, he's chosen ten of those questions to answer. Each of the people who…

Everyone's always talking about how we can possibly distinguish between contemporary country music and whatever Americana/roots/alt-country/outlaw/indie music is. Marty Stuart summed it up pretty well when he said, "The most outlaw thing you can do in Nashville, Tennessee, today is play country…

Each year, the music industry and music fans gather in Austin, Tex., to celebrate music itself. Granted there's plenty of schmoozing and business happening, too, but for one short week live music is king across Austin - from clubs on 6th Street to parking lots in South Austin, and beyond.
Once again, we'll be joining the fray in 2012 with a No Depression Showcase at the Continental Club on Wednesday, Mar. 14.
If you're heading to Austin for…

Happy to do our part to support you Kyla b/c you have done the heavy lifting keeping ND alive that in turn has become vital to supporting, educating and perpetuating American roots music, which includes all of us in zydeco and Cajun music as well. You do damn nice work Kyla. All the best for a joyful and healthy 2012!
Very cool
Just got a really nice email from Kyla thanking me for a modest donation. It's the least I can do and honestly we feel a certain level of resposibility to support such high quality work like ND. It's why we support the Blues Foundation, MusiCares, The Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation and other orgs/NGO's that support blues/roots. I am an American Roots music artist. I will own this title 'til I die, so I better do my part now to make it count, so that I'll have no regrets later. Peace, love and zydeco y'all!

Ellen Giurleo said… The Swinging Steaks and Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez perform. A five-man band out of Boston, Swinging Steaks are among the originators of the current roots rock/alternative country movement. Fueled by singer/songwriters Jamie Walker and Tim Giovanniello, the group’s material explores a rich diversity of musical Americana from full tilt rockers to mandolin-driven melodies and soulful ballads. Known as “The Beehive Queen” for her outrageous, mile-high hairdo, Christine Ohlman is the current, long-time vocalist with the Saturday Night Live Band and rocks the house with her mix of blues and Americana.
