Donna Dean, creator of this NZ Americana 'community', played a packed-out and wonderfully received house concert at my place last week. Thanks again Donna! Read a terrific review by respected Wellington journalist and musician Karl du Fresne here http://karldufresne.blogspot.co.nz/2012/02/another-house-concert-in...

Apart from the Warratahs there hasn't been too much country in NZ  to date. Now if alt-country has become cool there we might start to hear some good things! Know of any good bands anyone?

Hi Donna
Thanks.
It's all a bit surreal really. I'm not too badly off. Some of my friends are. It's about when is it going to stop, and heck it's going to take a long time to fix this place up again ... many years I suspect. Anyway we have an arts festival coming up with tents and domes in Hagley Park. Plan to see The Unfaithfull Ways and a group from Wellington playing Kurt Weill. I have some Kurt Weill on a Marianne Faithfull album.
Cheers

Hey Steve, more quakes in Chch. I Hope you're doing ok?

In Christchurch we don't get many touring alt country artists and now with the quakes it's even worse. Chch home to The Eastern and Stomping Nick (punk blues).

Seen John Doe, Rosie Flores, Mark Olson and Gary Louris, Steve Earle "relatively" recently here. Found the Bloodshot compilation albums a great source of musicans to investigate.

Greg Fleming and The Trains - interested in playing shows with other like-minded NZ acts.

This should be good, if Dave Alley is there, I am generally there.
