When a band releases new material on vinyl, what is you preferred combination of the competing factors of quality and cost?

For example: Wilco (the album) was released on 180 gram vinyl, with a nice heavy gatefold sleeve, lots of artwork, and a copy of the cd in it's own little printed color cd sleeve - but the price point is $20.

If all bands released in this format at this price, would you pick and choose your vinyl purchases, or buy everything on vinyl?

In my shopping experiences to date, the best model has been how Shellac releases (regardless of what you might think about their music). Beautiful heavy cardboard gatefold sleeves, 180 gram virgin vinyl pressings, with a free unpackaged/printed on cd for easy import to your computer - all done for the same price as the cd.

Do you look to vinyl as a special purchase only or would you prefer to buy all new releases on vinyl?

When I pressed my current record to vinyl, I was recommended to United Record Pressing in Nashville, and saw that they were pressing to super 210 gram vinyl. At the time they didn't make printed Jackets so I went with Dorado Press in Los Angeles. I also opted for the digital download cards that come along with the records knowing that these would possibly have a "collectors" value and all said and done it was very, very expensive, but all in all a nice package for vinyl lovers.
And the price point, well, $20.
Yeah, vinyl will always be a niche market, and my concern (as a consumer) is that it will move into this sort of "Limited Edition" territory.

My frustrations in purchasing vinyl revolve around the extreme ends of the quality/cost spectrum - i.e. shoddy mastering on flimsy vinyl, with no digital provided (on the cheap end) and on the other end, the $50 super vinyl package with limited edition artwork and pressed into XXX gram vinyl, with a "bonus" cd - and sometimes, frankly, these pressings sound like shit.

Obviously the cd is preferable to the download, because it is uncompressed files - downloading, though is usually fairly convenient and I can't complain as long as I get one or the other.
I buy pretty much everything on vinyl. I prefer just getting an MP3 DL code rather then a cd, for one I think it makes it cheaper and I would just end up converting it to MP3s anyways.

I've been collecting vinyl for awhile now and th epast to years it has been a lot easier but I think it will die down eventually and not as many bands will put out material on vinyl.
If every album came with a CD or digital download and was less than $20, I would buy vinyl exclusively.
