Re the Steve Earle does Townes discussion: Are you kidding me? The guy knew Townes well, even named his son after him, and he can't cover him without people drawing comparisons? No, cover isn't the word; it's tribute, respectful and loving and as good as he could make it.

I didn't know either one of them, but  I heard Townes live on two or three occasions and I have always thought that songwriting was his strongest suit. Sure I love the authenticity and passion in Townes singing style, but there were off-days,  ya'll  know.

Truth is the production is better now. I like Lyle Lovett's Townes's covers, as well, for the same reason- -better recordings. Last consideration-- buying directly from the TVZ website directly benefits the estate, so, there's that.

Hey folks. I'm a Touring Independent Austin Texas Outlaw Honkytonker that needs your support! I do over 200 shows a year on a national level, and I'm always looking for new places to play so please let me know if you know of any. "If I were to trace the genealogy of the country music Outlaw, it would start with Bobby Bare, roll through Willie & Waylon and that whole gang, follow Cash through the late 90′s, and end up in the country music underground with people like Peewee Moore as possibly the perfect example of the Outlaw lineage in the present day"

I've first heard of Danny Schmidt this year. Now I have all of his albums. Deadman is cool. I had their album "In the heart of mankind" that I enjoyed... I need to pick it up again, been too long.

So, the year is almost over...who are your favorite artists you've learned about this year?? Mine is the band DEADMAN from Austin. If you haven't heard them do yourself a favor...

Deryl Dodd seems to be a really cool guy. He played a bar I worked at solo once and as long as we brought him pitchers if beer, he played old Willie and George Jones songs all night :)

This summer you can see Sara Hickman, Deryl Dodd, and The Derailers for FREE at the Levitt Pavillion. How about that!

Aren't I Lucky.....
To have found such great people to play with. Austin has been kind thus far. In such early stages of my relationship with Texas, what a pleasure to have met such great musicians. I am deeply appreciative of the fellas that came on board with Dominic and I to bust out an hour set for an unofficial SXSW showcase last weekend here in Austin. We had a blast and are looking forward to many more gigs in and around the Lone Star State. The booking's are in the works and I hope to be seeing more of you all in the near future....

True that no one does Townes like Townes but even when hes covered, which he is all the time, they are all still amazing songs. Hell if I was an artist I would want to sing Townes' songs myself.
