Comment by Stephen A. Vinson on April 13, 2012 at 2:32pm Re the Steve Earle does Townes discussion: Are you kidding me? The guy knew Townes well, even named his son after him, and he can't cover him without people drawing comparisons? No, cover isn't the word; it's tribute, respectful and loving and as good as he could make it.
I didn't know either one of them, but I heard Townes live on two or three occasions and I have always thought that songwriting was his strongest suit. Sure I love the authenticity and passion in Townes singing style, but there were off-days, ya'll know.
Truth is the production is better now. I like Lyle Lovett's Townes's covers, as well, for the same reason- -better recordings. Last consideration-- buying directly from the TVZ website directly benefits the estate, so, there's that.

"If I were to trace the genealogy of the country music Outlaw, it would start with Bobby Bare, roll through Willie & Waylon and that whole gang, follow Cash through the late 90′s, and end up in the country music underground with people like Peewee Moore as possibly the perfect example of the Outlaw lineage in the present day"
