The Maeflies to release Dinkytown Highway and Host CD Release Event at the Parkway Theater in Minneapolis
Minneapolis, MN Sept.1, 2010—The Maeflies will bring their unique blend of Americana rock & roll and Cosmic American Music to the historic Parkway Theater in South Minneapolis on Saturday, October 9, 2010. The evening will celebrate their sophomore Purgatory Creek Records release Dinkytown Highway, which includes 11 new original songs plus an interpretation of the Academy Award winning The Weary Kind, written by T-Bone Burnett and Ryan Bingham. Dinkytown Highway, with a nod to the iconic Minneapolis enclave, takes the rich vocal harmonies and rawboned rock and roll of the Maeflies to new heights.
The evening will feature a three-band bill and stand-up comic Mickey Rich will emcee the event. Geezer (with Minnesota Rock & Country Hall-of-Famer Stymie Seamans) and The Wide Open (featuring twin cities rock veteran Darril Otto with former members of Spymob and Kentucky Air) will join the Maeflies for an evening of endemic Minnesota rock music.
The event is co-sponsored with Sun Country Airlines, “The Hometown Airline”, who will be raffling off a pair of round-trip domestic airfares. Sun Country Airlines’ next compilation-release SCA VOL2 will include music from the Maeflies and other Minnesota notables Rocket Club, Alison Scott, Keri Noble and Trampled by Turtles.
Tickets include free valet parking, free raffle ticket and an authentic Mexican appetizer buffet prepared by owner Joe Minjares of Pepito’s. Cash bar. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Advance tickets: brownpapertickets.com Day of the show: Parkway box office. Parkway Theater, 4814 Chicago Ave. So., Minneapolis, MN 55417 theparkwaytheater.com Doors open at 6 30 pm. Music begins at 7 30.

I'm caught up in a cycle of having to drive in rush hour traffic for the better part of four hours daily for a while and the past couple of days I've been having an Eliza Gilkyson fest ... mostly of her Red House releases. This morning it was Land of Milk & Honey ... a powerful record with the surprise ending (I'd forgotten all about Iris DeMent, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Patty Griffin all coming in to add their voices to "Peace Call" )...
