Next up....Mr Ray Wylie Hubbard...born in Hugo Oklahoma...I used to go watch Ray & the Cowboy Twinkies when they played in Norman Oklahoma bars back in the day. My friend, Terry "Buffalo" Ware was slinging guitar for the Twinkies... fights would begin to break out until they agreed to play "Up Against the Wall...", the song for which Ray is best known, and every drunk in the place would sing along at the top of their lungs. His music has morphed & changed, is dark & swampy and just keeps getting better & deeper.
You gotta check out the opening animation on his website....its by far and away the coolest I've seen so far....well worth the trip over there, I promise: http://www.raywylie.com/
My hubby turned me on to RWH & The Cowboy Twinkies. I understand that he wasn't pleased by what the record company did to the final mix on that album, but we still enjoyed it nevertheless. Bought some of his current music and like it as well. Very thoughtful and thought provoking lyrics.
RWH was added to the TMR show on March 21 at Southfork ranch in Plano...great line up headlined by Leon Russell, Hayes Carly,Band of Heathens, Brandon Jenkins and more...14 year of festival and always great time
