Philly (and it surrounding areas - S. Jersey, Delaware, NE PA and Central PA) has a somewhat disorganized and sometimes hard to find alt country/Americana scene. As a Philly alt country musician and fan, thought I would start this group to try and bring musicians and fans together. Talk about local performers, national acts coming to town, venues or anything else Philly area, alt country or Americana related.

Comment by The Miners on March 4, 2013 at 3:12pm Thanks for the kind words Rob. The Miners will be performing with Morning River Band again in May, details to come soon.
Amber - as we discussed, certainly would be interested in trying to do something together in Philly and we are interested in expanding our gig territory outside Philly so maybe we can do something up your way as well.
Amber - Oh my God, you guys are so great!! I will try to catch you in Sellersville, but the Jim Thorpe CD release looks really tempting, and I love that area up there (I've been looking for some affordable land up there for some time now). Will try to see you, your music is like soul food to me, makes me feel stronger and nourished after I listen to it! Oh, and didn't mean to in any way slight Morning River Band, who the Miners opened up for, had to leave for the family a little early but what I heard sounded really sweet.
Hi, I'm new to No Depression. My name's Rob Sobol and I have a new CD / Digital Release coming out in a few weeks. Below is a link to the prerelease playlist on YouTube. I'm a singer - songwriter from Pennsylvania, mom was classical musician from Kansas City, Grandpa was drummer, great-grandpa a brakeman on the Missouri Pacific. Great uncles were Joe and Harry Fields, the vaudevillians. Me, I'm a singer by training (all of which I have tried to forget) and keyboardist by ear, grew up on all kinds of music, Johnny Cash and the Beatles, Creedence and Jazz, still writing all kinds. Crazy things happened, won on StarSearch in 80s doing new wave with Social Voyeurs, sang and played blues and roots music with the great Crazed Wilsons in the 90s, and now this.
"Americana Joe" is a 13 song story project written in a country and blues rock vein. I think its the best writing and singing I've done in years, hope you like it, or at least some of it!
The Story of AMERICANA JOE. The Rob Sobol Project. Once upon a time, on a tiny wooden stage in a dark, smoky, ancient whiskey bar, at the decrepit edge of the most dilapidated neighborhood in an otherwise picturesque small town, stood Americana Joe. The band ended their last set with Whiskey and Cigarettes. The crowd sang along. Joe smiled his toothy grin. A good man with simple needs, satisfied.

Hi Amber! Checked out your link below. Definitely dug the music. Maybe our bands can do some PA shows together.
Take care.
