One thing that always gets my goat is way people get pigeon-holed...o.k. so Turner wasn't much of a poet but at least he tried..and Ingres played violin so what's wrong with playing around....

Speaking of Tom Russell ... this is a Christmas card design I made for him a few years back ... before he started flexing his own art muscles. The tree is decorated with references to a lot of TR songs. My avatar was also originally done as a drawing for Tom.
great stuff ...does it snow in El Paso? Sounds like a TR song :-)
I'm a writer, plain and simple. I just happen to write: songs, poetry, novels, plays, comedy material, and screenplays. I'm also an actor and a former stand-up comic, and I do play a few musical instruments. I don't do all of these things in equal amounts at all times... I'll concentrate on one or two disciplines at any given time. My core medium, though, is songwriting.
What I like is turning to a different creative outlet or medium to give another a rest for awhile. Making visual art exercises a completely different part of my brain & psyche and often feeds into songwriting later on and vice versa.

I agree with Chris Jay that an artist is an artist (or a writer is a writer). Having various expressions doesn't negate being a master at any (or all of them).

I have never liked this term either; I prefer Renaissance Man or Renaissance Woman instead. Creativity is creativity, no matter what form it is expressed in. I majored in Fine Arts, but I will always keep my love for writing poetry, songs, and playing music. I have been told to focus on one talent only, but that is like asking someone with 3 or 4 children to concentrate on one and give up the rest. I want it all. Here is one of my watercolors to share with you. Hopefully new tunes will be ready to share soon. I am glad to see other Renaissance People here. Beautiful work. Peace All Ways ~ Raven (Golanv)

Very nice work here. I am new to this group. I'm not crazy about that term " Jack of all trades..." Sometimes I admit I use it to refer to myself. Whether it is lack of confidence or wanting to lower expectations in case it isn't perfect. But I love being able to dabble and having my hands in more than one thing. I think each thing you do helps and feeds the other. Art helping music helping work or volunteering.
