Hi everyone-
First, I am a huge alt-country fan. It is what I've been raised on, and so my music tends to reflect that. I'm from Columbia, Missouri so we have great shows come through here because we are right in between St. Louis and KC! There is also a really awesome, supportive music scene here too that I've been involved in since high school.
Speaking of high school, yes, I am young. I've been writing songs since I was 16 (that's when I started singing too, been playing the guitar since I was 13 though I think my songwriting is the strongest and then my voice... then my guitar :)) I am 21 now (FINALLY able to get into bars and drink where I've been playing since age 17), working through college. I got really involved in playing shows and stuff in high school because I had an amazing English teacher who started this after school club for music fans and musicians called the Academy of Rock. I would never have even dreamed I could play at The Blue Note (big venue in town) or write my own songs or sing or do any of the stuff I'm doing now if it weren't for my teacher and that club. The club gave me opportunities to play during lunch time at my school and assemblies (which was funny playing alt country covers like Jenny Lewis and Slobberbone since it's an inner city school where most people listen to rap and top 40, but my peers were so supportive and accepting), and eventually we did a Battle of the Bands at the end of the year at The Blue Note which I won my senior year (I was the competition's first female front-woman even though it had been going on for years!). I won recording time in town to do a demo.
We also got bands to come to our high school and perform during the school day, then answer questions about what it was like to be a working musician. We had bands such as the Drive-by Truckers come (if you can believe it), The Hold Steady, Cary Hudson of Blue Mountain, and Exene Cervenka of X (she lived in Jeff City, 30 min away at the time and gave us books of her poetry). It was seriously the most inspiring club. I owe so much to it.
Anyway, enough rambling about that. My dad recently reconnected with his best friend from college, who is a musician / songwriter who had lived in Nasvhille for years writing songs for Pat Green, but after being done with Nashville stuff relocated to Austin where he plays a lot. His name is Walt Wilkins (and the Mystiqueros). He told Walt that I am a singer/songwriter, and I gave him a demo CD which he thought had potential surprisingly (they were really shitty recordings haha). Since then I've been going down to Austin, TX, recording an album with awesome session musicians and Walt even gave me the chance to play a set at Luckenbach. Walt is kind of my mentor, and he and Ron Flynt are producing my album. (Walt also produced Sam Baker's awesome albums by the way, and Walt and his band are the most AMAZING musicians. You should see him live if he's in your area! So many beautiful sometimes 6 part harmonies... )
I recorded the basics to 11 original songs with session musicians. They're not completely finished... we still have to overdub some parts and instruments like fiddle, lap steel, pedal steel, etc. but I did want to share a few unfinished tracks that I have so far:

Feel free to let me know what you think. I write country songs technically I've been told, but the session guitarist and the drummer totally rocked out (the guitarist has some Stones' licks going) so they don't sound completely country. I'll let y'all know wen they're completely finished... hopefully I can go down there this summer.
Anyway, thanks for reading my extremely long winded ramble, and thanks for taking the time to listen!
<3 Molly
