Nice to see the mention of fine Houston artists, old and new.

Back in the 80's, I was on a first name basis with Lyle Lovett, through our mutual friend, Bruce W., in Austin.

Never had a long talk with him, however, just a few hellos between sets, some in out-of-the way roadhouses in the sticks.

I know that he grew up in Klein, and that he and Robert Earl Keen were buddies (They co-wrote 'Porch Song," I believe) and both attended Texas A & M University. I am interested in knowing more about those earlydays-- before Ms. Roberts, Hollywood and all of that noise.

So, you Houstonites, did you know Lyle "back then" ? What is your earliest musical memory of our boy?
