And if you are where are you shopping? Here in Vancouver, HMV was our last big flagship store and it has recently been sold. And I noticed that the music selection has really shrunk especially for the more esoteric stuff. Or am I one of the last holdouts that hasn't abandoned the cd for digital streaming? Let's create a list of the best places to buy Canadiana or Americana roots music.
I still buy about 2 or 3 cds a year, like Dylan's bootleg series or the new Steve Earle or emmylou harris, or when I'm out in the 'boonies' - say, Swift Current, Sk - when something like the new Tom Waits comes out. speaking of which, time to give NEW YEAR'S EVE a spin.
Soundscapes on College St. in Toronto is the best store I've come across for having a good selection of Americana in stock.
Bit late to this post and only found it via ND's main site. The last bricks and mortar purchase of a CD I made was at HMV in Vancouver on vacation from the UK last July - and they were two of my favourite artists - Catherine McLellan and Marc Jordan.
I normally buy on the internet most often via auction sites - I would not normally download music, because I like all the packaging and info that comes from physical CDs (these are often a source of info for other artists that I have not heard before). Downloaded music seems to miss something for me but then I play my music on Mark Levinson equipment that cost upwards of Can$40,000 back in the day. There is no way a pc, iPod, iPhone or car CDs can match the quality of that playback.
